Lots of good vibes coming their way

Sammy and Mom will be in my thoughts for days to come, knowing this oh so important event is going to take place. I trust since this procedure is done so often these days, that all will run smoothly. It is wonderful that Jessica is a match for Sammy.

Prayers and positive vibes being sent their way!

    Keep us posted.

I do not have the ability to put into beautiful words the prayer that our Phred would muster - but I can pray with all of my heart for a perfect and healthy outcome for everyone.

What an example for us all - Jessica with her limitless love and care and Samantha with a spirit that will never be broken. We are fortunate to share their lives through you Johanna.

    Please give them my love.

I just spent the day off and on reading through this entire thread. Since I was not yet a member back in 05 when this originally started. I was sad that I didn't get to see most of the pictures, only the last two posted. But thanks to Phred (of course!! ) I was able to read the progress (and setbacks) of Samantha and her family.
It really is amazing to me that Jessica is a match. She was definitely placed in the right family, that's for sure!
I will keep Jessica and Samantha in my thoughts for the big day Tuesday.
Our goal in life should be - to be as good a person as our dog thinks we are.

Thank you for the siggy, Michelle!

That is so amazing that Jessica is a donor match for Sam. Wow... That is a huge fear as an adoptive parent. The "what ifs" in that kind of medical situation. Prayers for all of them...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but family doesn't have a greater probability of being a donor match than someone from the general public. I guess that family is tested first because donating one or part of your organs is a life changing commitment.

    My prayers are with them.

Yes, family often more likely a match, but Sam was adopted from China. What a blessing that her adoptive mother is a match.

Read Sam's story - she is the adopted daughter of Jessica. Its an amazing thing that Jessica is the match.

BIG delays. I talked to my BIL at 430 Ohio time. Jessica was out of surgery and in recovery, about to be taken to a room for the night. She is doing fine and the surgery went well.

Sam was just going to be coming out of surgery, and taken to recovery, where she will stay for several hours, before going to the ICU. She will be in the ICU for 10-14 days. The surgery went well. I didn't know that both of Sam's kidneys stay in her, and my sister's is added to the mix.

Jessica had high hopes of spending the night in the ICU, but with the surgery so delayed, will prolly be in her room re-couperating. Though, knowing my sister...she might be sneaking some place, somehow.

My BIL was going to stay with Sam until late tonight. That is a bit worrisome, as he has been up at 3, and with the stresses of the day, driving home 50 minutes, at dark, in the rain...could be difficult. I hope he stays the night.

I will update as I know more. Thanks for keeping them in your thoughts and prayers!

Just the update I was looking for. So glad things went well. Now they just both need to recover.
I do hope your BIL stays the night there. Jessica and Samantha really need him to remain healthy and well.
That is interesting about adding the kidney in with the others. I guess if the others aren't infected or causing issues, why not? Not like an alcoholics kidney would be.
I will still keep them in my thoughts until both are home again.
