Hi everyone,
Sorry I didn't get to post yesterday - we weren't discharged until 8pm and less than an hour after we got home, our friends from Scotland arrived! And today everytime I tried to get online and upload the pictures from the digital camera, the baby would wake up and fuss! He's asleep right now so I'm taking advantage of the peace and quiet to fill you all in.
Josh and I arrived at the hospital around 7:10am on Wednesday. We were taken right back to the birthing suite and within 10 minutes, they had started the pitocin. I started feeling light cramping sensations almost immediately but nothing bad. After about 30 minutes, my OB came in and broke my water. That did NOT feel good. Throughout the morning, the contractions got worse and while I was had been hoping to get through the whole thing without any drugs, it got to the point where I couldn't take it anymore. I felt like I was going to die. So I caved and asked for the anesthesiologist (sp) so I could get an epidural. That was around noon. He gave me a double dose because of my previous back problems and within 10-15 minutes, I was back to my old self. We spent the rest of the afternoon watching TV and relaxing - I think I even fell asleep for a bit at one point! Around 4:30pm, I had an internal and my OB said I was 9cm. dialated and fully effaced and to let her know when I felt like I needed to push. About 30 minutes later, I knew it was time so she checked and I was 10 cm. dialated and ready to go.
After 20 minutes of pushing, Aidan Joshua Patterson was born at 5:19pm. He was 5 lbs., 3 oz. and only 16 1/4" long. He's a little peanut! Unfortunately, we have some medical issues that he will have to deal with throughout his life but nothing life-threatening. We're actually still waiting to hear results of some tests that he had while we were in the hospital. Once we know more, I'll post more.
We were discharged from the hospital last night - December 23, 2005 at 8pm. I'll be around a little but probably pretty infrequently for awhile - until I get accustomed to this whole "mommy" business.
Until then, here are some pictures...
