    Poem

    My husband writes poetry and has been published. He just completed this as a tribute to Butterscotch. Get the kleenex out
    *************************************************

    You perched on my computer desk
    staring outside the window,
    conversing with the noisy blue jays,
    inviting them for dinner.
    Like a pendulum, your orange tail swung,
    its tip, white as a cotton ball;
    patiently, hoping they would come
    before you retired upstairs for the day.

    Another time, you laid beside me
    as I wrote lines to a poem.
    Your lemon eyes followed the pen
    until the moment came to strike.
    With gentle paws, you played,
    bringing me joy I never knew;
    a longing stare from your face
    brought warmth to this human heart.

    Now you are gone
    and a piece of me is lost.
    I miss the assurance of your purr
    that welcomed the morning dawn,
    knowing you were there
    brought a sanctuary to my soul.

    Some say there’s a rainbow bridge
    beyond heaven's pearly gates;
    old become young again,
    the infirmed, healthy once more.
    I know if there’s such a place,
    we’ll be together my Butterscotch,
    you're absent from my human eyes,
    but never from my heart.

    I am teary-eyed. How very sweet and loving. Both of you are fortunate to have each other to help in your grief.

    Thanks for the warning about the kleenex.

    That's such a lovely tribute.
    Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, champagne in one hand and strawberries in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming WOO HOO - What a Ride!

    This is why I keep a big box of kleenex on my desk.

    What a beautiful tribute to such a lovely cat who brought such joy to your lives.

    Just when I thought I couldn't cry another tear over Lily being PTS today, that poem struck a chord and out came the tissues again. Thank you for sharing such a touching tribute.
