Mom, I don't want to stay here!

"Mom, I don't want to stay here." Those were the last words Hannah got out before the Vet Tech took her to "the back" of the Veterinary Clinic today.

The problem started yesterday with up-chucking breakfast and things went downhill pretty fast in that she couldn't even hold down any water and then refused to even try to drink. A quick trip to the vet yesterday and a couple shots and home with some pills too and some prescription canned food, but still wasn't able to hold down the little water she did drink early this morning, nor the pill, nor the spoonfull of food, and she is again refusing to take any water. So it was back to the vet where she got an x-ray (nothing unusual showed up) and blood tests (no results yet). She is now on an IV for hydration and will get another shot this afternoon and is to stay overnight. She is running a fever. Dr. says he doesn't want this to develop into pancreatitis. He said he'd call later this evening with any info.

Took me awhile to post this, and lucky for you because this is "the condensed version".

O my gosh! How scary! Did the vet give any clue as to what they think is causing the problem? Do they suspect something wrong with an organ (being that you mentioned pancreatis)? My cocker went through something like this when she was about 10 or 11 years old - didn't hold anything down for several days. We were very scared. It turned out that she had twisted her back funny and was in pain. Anti-inflammatories and painkillers for a few days, and then she was back to normal.
I'm praying that Hannah's problem is just as simple to fix!

This was a heart wrenching topic to read. I can't believe that strong girl Hannah is sick. I know how hard this is Rachel, but remember that she is brave and she is a fighter. She won't let any sickness get the best of her. I can't wait until she can come home to you. I am so sorry she has to stay overnight. Hold Tucker close and we will all be praying for our sweet Hannah.

I just read my husband all these sweet, sweet messages. He was quite impressed with the dear friends we have here. Aly you are right about Hannah being a strong girl. I was just thinking how healthy she has been. No problems since she was spayed at six months. I am waiting now for the vet to call me as he promised he would tonight with an update. Jessica, his initial impression was it was some kind of virus or bacterial thing, you know like a doggy flu, but said we may never really know what it is, but the pancreatitis is something that may develop as a complication of the initial problem. That thing your cocker had could be a real possibility with Hannah because she does a lot of running and jumping for the Kong, but she does have a fever, so that still points to some kind of infection. Whatever it is I a glad I got her in there so fast because I know dehydration could have made everything so much worse.

Tucker has a new theme song, "I'm Mr. Lonely". He is like a lost soul without his big sister around.

Thanks to all of you. I'm holding up pretty good. Trying to think positive. Sure wish Dr. Sage would call though.

Rachel I have been out all day but precious Hannah has been on my mind. I got home and went right on the computer to see how she was doing. I agree that it is best she stay overnight and get those fluids in. Also, the negative x-rays made me feel better too. No blockage as you had feared. Hope it is just a bug of some sort. Maybe she just ate something a little weird in the grass and it sort of caught up with her. I'm hoping you are doing OK too. I know how frightened you must be and poor little Tucker must be beside himself without the Princess of Pillows to pal around with. Please continue to keep us updated. Lots of prayers are going up!

Dr. Sage just called. He just took her for a walk himself (I'm impressed). Said she was interested in checking out a Ford Escort and wondered if anyone in our family had one. No, but knowing Hannah, she was looking for a ride home. He said she is doing about the same. Still has a fever but seems to be strong. Color is good. He still didn't have the results of the blood tests and he has kept her on IV all day and no thowing up or diarhea. The stool test was negative for any parasites. He thinks that she should spend another day and night there so they can start her out on water and food in the clinic. He is thinking about having us visit tomorrow but not sure whether that would be helpful for her or just upset her when we left without her again. I told him that I didn't want to put any pressure on him but did want him to realize she was the center of my life! He said he kind of had that impression.

Oh, Rachel, I know you are worried. I am too! We too have been gone the majority of the day, and I just came to check up and see how Hannah was doing. I'm so sorry she is having to spend the night, but it is so much better than the risk of her getting dehydrated while he figures this out.

Chin up mom, and just give lots of extra attention to Dad and Tucker, and let them take care of you! Be strong for Hannah. I just know she will be ok....and will be waiting for you to spoil her rotten when she returns to her house!

We love you and will say lots of prayers for Hannah tonight.

Rachel, I know how hard this is for you, I would be the same way, you know me, if it was Daisy. But all in all she is in a very good place where they can watch her to make sure everything is going well. It does sound like maybe some kind of virus she picked up.
You are right the girls are the center of our lives, believe me I know how you feel. I am so anxious to hear Hannah is well, you already know she is my favorite. We will keep up the positive thoughts and prayers for her.

Poor baby Hannah! I was sitting here at the computer saying "Oh my goodness! Poor Hannah. " With my mouth wide open. I hope she's alright. I'm sure everything will be okey, though. You, Hannah, and Tucker will be in my thoughts and prayers. Feel better, baby Hannah. We all love you! I hope you feel better.
