    Blood in urine?

Good morning everyone. Cubby just urinated in my bathtub and it had blood in it. He urinated on me/ some on my hand about 4 weeks ago. I called the vet and they said it could wait until his appointment, but they never checked his urine or anything. But he also was laying in a blanket that had some needles in it. So we thought maybe he got poked with one. After that I never saw it again.

Now there is more blood in it than there was 4 weeks ago. I am waiting until 8 am to call the vet that is when they open. I am going to try to get him in a.s.a.p. So many thoughts are running through my mind right now. First and for most I hope he will be ok.

Does any one out there know what blood in urine can mean health wise by any chance. I would like to find out before I go into the vet.

I am very afraid of them telling me that he is very sick and he might have to be put to sleep. That is my biggest fear about taking him in. I will post an update on him when I call the vet. I will let you know what time and everything I have to take him in.

    Thanks again everyone,
    Katie

Last year, Maya had blood in her "droppings". She was checked out then, but ther was nothing wrong with her. So please, go to the vet with Cubby, and let him do some tests! Better be sure, hey! But don't worry to much, it can surely be helped

Well I left a voice mail about 5 minutes ago and his vet just called me back, he said it is most likely a bladder infection. They will get a urine sample from him. He told me to call a few minutes after 8 am which is in 45 minutes and they will put him in one of the emergency spots they keep open every day. So hopefully he will be fixed. Poor baby. I really feel like a very bad catmom right now. We noticed it 4 weeks ago and called the vet and they told me to wait until his appointment. So now it has only got worse. I must give him treats overload when I get home with him. Maybe he will get better. I need to buy more treats. Lol. The vet told me not to worry to much about it that he will get him all fixed up and better. I am so glad I have a very nice vet. Please keep Cubby in yours thoughts.

You are most likely looking at a urinary tract infection. That will be treated with antibiotics and recovery should be quick. If at all possible, attempt to get a urine sample (a very hard thing to do), but the vet will ask if you managed to get one. If you do not think it is possible, my vet told me that if I confined a cat to a carrier for at least 2 hours before the vet visit that they would be able to locate the bladder with a needle and syringe and draw a urine sample. You may want to ask/try that.
    Best of luck with Cubby.

Well I just called the vets office and I have to take him in in a half hour. He also seems a little bloated which I'm not sure if that is because he is full of urine or what. The vet said that they will get a urine sample for me. I did write down your advice though jenluckenbach that way if they ever ask me to get a sample I know a better way to do it now. He hasn't urinated since the bathtub, so they should be all set to get one from him, unless he urinates in his carrier again.

Sounds like a urinary tract infection. Those can be scary, but usually respond well to antibiotics.

    Good luck!

Cubby was the little guy with problem with litter peeing outside the box. Peeing outside box either doesn't like litter or UTI. In a day or two with antibotics your little guy will be feeling better.

We just got home, Cubby has a bladder infection and is now on a special diet, and some medication. The vet said he has something wrong with his kidneys but he couldn't tell for sure what it was. He goes back in 2 weeks to get a blood test to see what is going on with his kidneys. Thank you every one for helping me out.

I also went and got his normal litter on the way home from the vets office. I had to keep Cubby in his cage until I got his normal litter put in and his old food taken away and his new food placed.

Real quick a funny thing happened at the vet today. As we were waiting to pay the bill the vets cat came over to Cubby and was looking at him. Cubby didn't like this cat very much and was growling and hissing. All the sudden the vet's cat went crazy and started beating up Cubby's cage, (which wasn't the funny part) I shewed her away from his cage. The vet tech came over and started telling the vets cat that she was bad. Then Pearl (vet cat) stood far enough away from Cubby's cage with an evil look in her eyes. Which I think was the funny part. Cubby of course didn't like the cat he kept growling and hissing. This cat just wanted to get Cubby mad. Or at least that the way she came off to me and hubby. Oh well.
