    lexies on the mend............

I decided to start a new thread, to tell you all that my Lexie is doing well now, after her ordeal i put her through, last night we did not need to put her cone on, and that was a big relief for me, actually got a decent nights sleep for the first time since last wednesday.
As you know she is an outdoor/indoor kitty, and has been kept in for a week now, so she is a little agitated to say the least, she sits on the windowsills upstairs looking longingly outside at the big wide world, but she will have to wait until the vet gives her the all clear on saturday.
You have all been so kind and supportive to me and thats helped tremendously, lexie is still as sweet natured as ever, im not looking forward to taking her to the vet, she gets very upset, trembles as soon as you put her in the cat carrier and her little paws are almost soaking with sweat, but hopefully all will be ok and it will be a quick visit for her.
    Furangels only lent.

Glad to hear Lexie on the mend.

So when are you allowed to release the 'prisoner'

I have also experienced the let me out now, I am going insane mood, that inside/outside cats show when we keep them inside.

It's good to hear she' s on the mend! This agitation will eventually end if you keep her indoors permanently. It just takes a while for them to get use to indoor only!
Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) is a full management plan in which stray and feral cats already living outdoors in cities, towns, and rural areas are humanely trapped, then evaluated, vaccinated, and sterilized by veterinarians. Kittens and tame cats are adopted into good homes. Healthy adult cats too wild to be adopted are returned to their familiar habitat under the lifelong care of volunteers

    K & L....

How long does it take you to re-educate an inside/outside stray to being happy inside only cat ?

I ask because George was inside for four months (three at the shelter and one month at our house) and he still wanted out very badly.

Looking at my cats, Treacle voluntarily spends 18 hours a day plus in the house. He is the only cat I have, who wouldn’t mind being inside 24/7

NB. Not that I would ever try to keep my cats inside all the time, I am asking this as I am very curious

The only one of my cats who spent much time outdoors is Katie, who was a stray for several months, at least. And she really never did try to get out or seem like she wanted out after I brought her indoors. Of course, Katie wanted to be an indoor cat so badly that she "broke in" to the house--she tore a hole in the back screen door and moved onto my enclosed back porch!

I'm glad the dreaded cone is off! Good luck for the vet's visit; hopefully after this trip Lexie won't have to go for a long time

Carole, I'm so glad to hear that Lexie is doing well and that her cone is off. I hope that the vet gives her the green light so that she can go back to her normal routine.

My new furkid Sky was a stray so he was used to being outside. Even now he sometimes meows at my front door and wants to go out. He's also a door dasher at times. Luckily my door only opens up to a hallway. I've never had a cat that wanted to go outside like this. I sure hope it will pass in time because he has to be an indoor only cat.
