Thread: I'm having a "bad rescue day"

I'm having a "bad rescue day"

It's sort of like a bad hair day but worse. Even more depressing.

I was handed 5, 1 day old pups today by a vet who spayed the mother yesterday. She didn't think she was that far along but the pups were viable. The owners of the female wanted nothing to do with the pups and wouldn't even keep them for a couple of weeks, until the were stronger.

One of them I'm going to lose for sure. He was already cold and weak when I got him and I just can't get his temp. up. I've tried hot water bottles and had him under my sweatshirt. The other 4 are stronger and suckling pretty good.

I'm not even going to try to guess what they are yet but they are wee little tykes. That would be my Pit mix with his nose in the box. He's deadly.

Just needed to vent a little!

Forget the pics of these poor doomed pups, show me a pic
of the vet who did the spay surgery. I've never heard
of a more incompetent moron who couldn't, on examination,
tell how far along the female dog was.Their heartbeats &
sometimes even movement inside the mother's belly would
reveal her birth readiness.I cannot believe a vet would hand
these babies over to an owner who clearly didn't want them.

    So tiny and stinky!!!
LOL "stinky" being the operative word here. Hard to believe anything that small can have such stinky poop.

I got the rest of the story last night. It seems the receptionist at this vet's office heard the pup were alive and had a fit about keeping them alive. The vet was very much against it but finally agreed and then they found out the people wouldn't take them. The receptionist is the one that called me and begged me to take them and give them a shot.

Sadly, I lost the small male last night. The other 4 are still doing great though! Keep your fingers crossed and send good thoughts their way.

WoW! That is just aweful. I will never, never, ever understand the coldness that some people harbor inside. I once saw on one of the animal programs how this womans dog had pups. Of course, she didn't want a thing to do with them. She proceeded to put them all in a garbage bag and than the trash can outside!! What a moron! Well, the neighbors were able to save a couple of them and the most of the rest were rescued once ACC were called out. I'm sorry to hear the little guy didn't make it. I will pray that the other little pups do well and that you will beable to find them a forever home!

That is so sad. Just awful. Who would NOT want those puppies to be with their mommadog? Oh, that's right, an irresponsible, uncaring owner. How could a vet "not know?"

They are lovely little squirmers, I hope the four musketeers will keep doing well and grow into strong beautiful pups, for who you will easily find loving homes.

I feel sad for the mother dog on so many counts, but am glad that at least her pups are with someone who cares.

    NWS_Haven,

Sorry that I was so shocked & appalled by the actions of the
vet & by the woman who brought the dog in, that I didn't say
Good Luck & Best Wishes for these little ones. I do wish them
the best & wanted to thank you for caring so much to try to
help them. Please keep us updated if you can. Liz.

Another horrible situation where the poor dogs suffer. How sad. I'm so sorry that the little guy died. I wish you the best of luck with finding a foster and then forever homes for the pups. Thanks for saving them!!

    Tracy,

Thats so sad. I'm really sorry you lost one of the boys I just lost one of my baby boy kittens last night I got them on Wednesday when they were just 2 days old. The other one is thriving though. I guess we're in the same boat. Exhausted and smelling baby formula and baby poop all day long

Stay strong. The babies need you

SO sorry you lost one of the lil guys You have a heart of gold for taking in these pups. There are no approproate words to discribe my disgust with the owner of the Momma Doggy. Shame on her!!

Best of luck to you and the lil pups.

Liz, I totally understand. I was so mad I couldn't speak for awhile, especially when I had to take the babies away from mom at the vet. I'm pretty much over it now, mostly because I'm so darn tired.

Aly, I so sorry you lost one of your babies too. I tried to nurse a 3 day old kitten and it didn't make it. I think they're even harder than the pups and much tinier. If they do make it, it's wonderful to watch them thrive and eventually get adopted to loving families. I just may have a few more grey hairs before they hit 8 weeks old.

Thanks for the good wishes and the support everyone. I'll keep you updated with new pics occasionally. These 4 are still doing well and nursing strong!
