    What does $8 buy you

I doing Christmas very cheap this year -- most people are getting magazine subscriptions that I obtained for free. Others are getting homemade gifts that cost about $5 each.

Mom keeps asking for a sweatshirt that says something about "Grandmom" on it. I looked and looked, but couldn't find anything in her size (and my price range) so I decided to make one.

Looking at a distance, its a glittery tree.

A closer look shows the name of all her grandchildren in calligraphy.

I did it free-hand so the "tree" is going uphill a bit, but I'm sure mom won't care because its made specially for her

and the bonus is: I finally found a use for the rhinestones I bought a good 15 years ago. The scary thing is I knew exactly where to find something I haven't used in over a decade. I never throw anything out that might have a future use.

I'm so excited to see mom's face when she opens it.

Cam's the only one getting real gifts, and I stuck to clearance centers and sales. I got him a Nintendo DS game at 5 Below for $5 (gee, funny price for that store ) and I wrapped it last night, along with my mom's gift and a couple others. I left them on the table and first thing this morning, Cameron checked the name tags. He said "This one is for me! And I know what it is - a DS game! I can tell my the shape of the box." How does a 5 year old know these things?

What a loving and priceless gift - one that your mom will cherish forever. Gifts given from the heart are worth so much more since so much of yourself goes into it.

I wouldn't be surprised if she cried when she opens that! That is a one of a kind and far more that I bet she was expecting... and to know YOU made it for her..... Better have tissues ready!
