    Lady's Human

Here's a small part of my WW1 French militaria collection, and a few Belgian ones near the end..........

    French

Croix de Guerre (Cross of War)

    Marne Medal

    Somme Medal

    Verdun Medal

This is another Verdun Medal. I bought this as I was intrigued with the initials hanging under. I thought perhaps it was some officials award. I found out that it actually is NC.....the awardee was obviously a US soldier from North Carolina.

    Marshall Foch Medal

    Joffre Medal

    Gallieni Medal

    Washington and Lafayette Medal

    Journee de Paris Decoration

Journee de 75 Decoration (Commemorates the effectiveness and success of the French 75mm Field Gun that was such a thorn in the side of the Huns)

    Call to Arms Medal

Another version of the Call to Arms Medal

    Medal Honouring WW1 French soldiers

    French Infantry Adrian Helmet Badge

    French Artillery Adrian Helmet Badge

Photograph of Emilienne Moreau, the Herione of Loos (Pronounced Loss). Loos was where my grandfather was very badly wounded.

What a neat collection & that should keep you out of trouble for a least a few seconds.

Seriously the Washington & Lafayette medal do you know the year & what kind of metal it is made out of?

Yes, it is 28mm in diameter (1-1/8"), it's made of brass, the medal designers name is Gaston Lavrillier.
On the back of the medal it says.......

    4 Juillet 1776
    14 Juillet 1789
    Journee de Paris
    1917

    Means........
    4th July 1776
    14th July 1789
    Paris Day
    1917

When I finish collecting what I want from certain country's (USA Vietnam War, North Vietnam, South Vietnam are near completion). I'll set them up on some pages on the net, and PM those interested a link so you can go take a look.

    Thanks for sharing, Wom.

I'm still amazed that the French struck medals basically celebrating incompetence.

    Good soldiers, crap leaders.

They only do well when lead by foreigners and arguably insane females.

That would be great! I was thinking they would make a really interesting book. But a Web page would be just as interesting.
Praying for peace in the Middle East, Ukraine, and around the world.

I've been Boo'd ... right off the stage!

Aaahh, I have been defrosted! Thank you, Bonny and Asiel!

I started a book on them, but I still have to finish it.
So far, the first page says "Once upon a time......."
And the last page says "THE END"

I had to laugh when I was in Vietnam seeing the remains of the French effort in the Indochina War. There are French forts everywhere. Or the remains of them. Evidently after there daily offensives, they would return to these forts for their nightly defencives, and lock themselves up in them.
You can imagine what was left of these forts and there inhabitants after a night surrounded by Viet Minh armed with explosives and perhaps a captured field howitzer or two
