Feliway Rag not working, tried Feliway Collar...:-) Update

Ok - Oscar is supposed to be on 2-3 sprays of Feliway per day, since his bout with cystitis. The doc suggested trannys, but was also happy to recommend Feliway.

"Just spray it in his favourite spot," said the doc.

HA HA

Oscar didn't like the sound. So I made a wee Feliway rag by cutting about a 3 sq inch of towel, spraying THAT, then putting it near Oscar.

But he never stayed in one place very long. He would sleep on my bed, but often I am almost asleep when he turns into a foot-warmer, and I don't get the rag and spray on my nighttable.

SO I searched for a strechy cat collar today. I got off work late, so all places were closed.

Came home, got out the sewing box, cut a ribbon of stretchy stuff off the bottom of an OLD bra. Put a hook and eye on it. Then got a TINY rectangle of towel, looped and sewed it so I could slide it over the collar - and voila! Remove collar 2 - 3 times a day, spray the little towel bit, and away we go!

Except...I found it on the living room floor, and Oscar doing a gleaming-eyed meatloaf pose in the corner.

Oh well....maybe a real, adjustable cat collar would work. Back to the store tomorrow!

The vet didn't recommend the diffuser - not sure why, I guess because Oscar only needed 2 - 3 shots per day...

But how much square footage does one of those things cover? Does it have to be a Feliway brand one or can I use any diffuser?

Sure could use some ideas.....

(I think a green kitty collar would look nice on Ossiker...what self-respecting male, neutered or not, would wear part of his meowmie's bra???)

They cover about 600 square feet. You need the Feliway brand diffuser and the refills. I have three of them plugged in at all times. I've seen a dramatic decrease in the aggression towards Ivy and in the amount of inappropriate peeing. I can always tell when the one in the kitchen is low--Onyx pees on the counter! They last about a month.

I order mine from EntirelyPets.com. It's an American site, but even with shipping and the exchange rate, it's cheaper than buying it from my vet(who wants close to 100 dollars per diffuser!)

My condo is about 963 squ feet. I figure with the storage closet closed, it's closer to 900.

I have two bedrooms, one bathroom. The dining room and living room are open space, with lots of air flow into the kitchen. Litterbox is in room #2.

The Feliway is not for aggression - Oscar is a big suck! - but for his stress, as he is a tad high-strung. The vet wants to prevent the idiopathic cystitis from coming back - there was blood in Oscar's urine for several weeks, even when all infection and crystals had gone.

Wondering where the best place would be to plug this in? Dining room? Far from the windows but the stuff is released into open space and air flow? I am trying to use just one...will it permeate the whole place after a time? And can I time the diffuser to diffuse 2 - 3 times a day? (I have a timer I can plug it into as well).

I just read the description on that web site, entirelypets. By the sounds of it, you do not want to put it in the room(s) with litter boxes. It says the cat will not soil anywhere near the Feliway.

I have been considering getting some for Sparkle, she gets very car sick. We are traveling 3 and 4 times a month just now. Yes, family trips, all SEVEN cats. She is the only one with motion sickness. For now, vet said to try dramamine, and work our way up to Feliway if that doesn't work.
