Thread: Camera suggestions?

    Camera suggestions?

I cannot afford one. I have decided that I do not care and am going to start saving for one, anyways! I figured that with all the PTers that are getting new cameras, someone might have a good suggestion!

So, fire away! Suggestions? What are the benefits and drawbacks? How do they compare to others in your experience?

I do not have the best eyesight so I would like to find one with the display screen. I like lots of options and doo dads! I like clean, crisp pictures. I like something that is versatile with the lighting. Meaning, I would like to be able to take a picture inside at night time or whatnot. You know, pictures that would otherwise come out too dark or too bright. Since I am *saving* up for this, I would prefer to keep it moderately priced (under 400, hopefully). It will take a while, at 20 bucks per week, but I'll get it eventually!

    Thank you!

I have a little Olympus D-595. It's 5 megapixel and has zoom, macro, flassh and all that jazz. It has lots of automatic settings and it also has manual settings so you can slow your shutter speed and such if you want to. I realy like mine and it takes good pics. I got mine on clearance at Target, I think it was like $140 or something like that. I'm sure it was last years model or something but the regular price was like $220 or so, not terribly expensive.

Look no further than a Canon Powershot. I KNOW you'll get LOTS of responses recommending their favorite Canon. I have the A510 (now discontinued) and it has LOTS of features, many of which I haven't even tried yet after more than a year. Easy to use, beautiful pics, good battery life, nice LCD

    Nikon P2

I got myself one of these not to long ago ...

    http://www.nikon.ca/products/coolpixp2/

(the price is in CAD, but i got mine for $299 CAD onsale)

Includes: 5.1 effective megapixels, 3.5x Zoom-Nikkor lens for 36-126mm (35mm equivalent) performance. In-camera features, including
Advanced Scene Modes, Red-Eye Fix, Face-Priority, D-Lighting and
Blur Warning. Aperture Priority mode gives you 10-step manual control over aperture settings in 1/3EV increments. It also makes movies in 7 different modes.

I've always been happy with Nikon cameras, but everyone definately has their own preferences It has really cool panoramic abilities, and also has wireless connection (IEEE802.11b/g) so you dont need to plut it in to get the pictures off (if you have a wireless router). A lot of the Nikon cameras are coming down in price since they just came out with a few new ones -- including the D80 (only $1300 CAD for just the body, no lenses -- http://www.nikon.ca/products/d80/ )

Heres a couple of pictures I took using this camera --- i'm posting them as links so that they dont take forever to load!

Wow, thank you VERY much everyone!

I love that these have all the doo dads and attachments! Very awesome pictures, too!

I do not know which one I want. Although, I am notoriously indecisive. So, hopefully I can make a decision soon!

I shall be gathering a coffee tub to start saving!
