When I was little, I was extremely shy. I wouldn't even want to interact with my not-so-close relatives. Now I'm not that shy at all. When I meet new people I'm very quiet and shy, however, it really depends on the situation.

If I'm with my family (Mom, Step-Dad, brothers etc.) then I'm shy when I go places, but with my friends, I'm not shy at all and am really outgoing.

On the internet?! Ohh not shy in the least! I usually...nevermind. Bri might know what I'm talking about though...*cough* VS *cough*

I am fairly shy in person, but once i get to know people am fine, i can hold a conversation with strangers ok and i don't come across as being terribly shy, but i am really, not shy on the internet, infact i consider this the real me, the one i would like to be in person, but cannot quite be, i am social phobic though.

I chose in the middle, although generally I vary from person to person. With people my own age, and people that I know well at school, I am a very confident person. I can generally talk to anyone in that category about anything, even embarassing or personal stuff sometimes. I'm not afraid to say what I think, even if it often gets me into bother.

Next in my confidence scale comes the internet. I would say I'm of average confident here, as I know that I can use my way with words to convey my opinions and feelings. However, I'm not a particularly trusting person. That's not to say that I am suspicious of everyone on this forum, but I make a point of not telling everything to everyone I have got to know during my time here. If, perhaps, the time comes when I have the opportunity to meet these people face to face, then I'm sure that this will be a different scenario, but I like to know people as people rather than words on a page before I can fully appreciate how trustworthy they are.

Then I would say that sometimes I am not as confident with people who are older than me and have some sort of authority. I am not exactly a shy person towards them, but I am quiet and reserved and will not go out of my way to crack a joke or burst into conversation; more likely I will speak when spoken to and remain smiling but serious, as I am quite a serious person underneath. I suppose that I really don't like the idea of making a bad impression of myself, so I tend not to be over-exuberant or loud!

I used to be a bit shy when I was younger, but no more! I may get a bit nervous over a new situation or meeting some new people but it wouldn't stop me from meeting them. After 5 minutes, I feel like I've known someone forever.

I don't know the meaning of shy. I am actually very outspoken and rather bold. I am rarely at a loss for words no matter what the situation. I am usually always the one to make some type of wisecrack to lighten the mood and loosen people up.

I'm VERY shy in person. If I get to know you then I'll talk your head off but at first it'll take me quite a while to get to talking.
I have to second this one lol I CANNOT start a conversation, I lack the skill completly, even on the internet, you have no idea how many topics I have started and gave up trying lol. but once a person gets me talking..dont expect me to shut up lol. the thing with me is that I am friendly...but shy to the extremes. combined with that, I am not even remotly like other people my age. so every other 19 year old girl is taking about boys and shopping etc.. I HATE shopping, and could not care less about dating. so...I am friends with quiet a few people in their 40's and up...but friends my age? none. I have plenty of aquaintences my age lol but no actual friends aside from my brothers Fiance..and she's not my age either(3 years younger) lol, I actually have quite a social life with people old eneugh to be my parents

I'm not sure what made me come out of my shell. I suppose it's when Kiara was missing. I talked to SO many strangers. SO many people that I probably wouldn't have talked to usually. Since then, I have been rather confident when meeting people for the first time.

I met 4 new people today and I was totally confident in myself and was able to have a great time because of it. I'm actually very proud of myself for becoming so confident in social environments. Before I'd get incredibly nervous with the thought of meeting with someone new.

Had you asked me the same question about a year ago, I would have said "Shy in person but fine on the internet."

I think it's just me. My mom was also really really shy though, but I think it's more just me. I'm really self conscious and afraid people are going to judge me and not like me, so I guess that's why I don't really open up to people at first.

That's so kind of you Karen I wish I could go to the PT gatherings, but there is never any within decent driving distance for me lol. I said I am in the middle. If the new person I try to talk to isn't shy then I'm not either, if I have something in common with someone new then I'm not shy. But if the new person is extremely shy with me then I am usually shy with them as well.

from what my mom has told me, I was extremly shy, right from the moment I was born(I was panicing around strangers before I should have been able to tell the differnce between people), so nothing "made" me shy, I simpley always have been.

It depends. If I'm meeting people on my turf, in my element, etc, I am VERY confident and in control. If I am meeting someone when I'm unsure about something I can be flighty and VERY insecure.

Example: at work right now I am actng as a sales person in a furniture store until I learn all the product, and then I'll be the store's designer. This salesperson thing has been torture for me; I get easily rattled over numbers so when it comes down to ordering things for customers I get hyper and stressed over the final amount I quote the customer, AND atessed about whether I wrote the right part # down and right color # down, and right option #s. All these numbers!!!

I get so worked up that anything occuring around the time of handing the final paperwork gets bumbled. They all laugh at me for this fact and consider me ditzy. I do through the same airhead act EVERY sale. Its so bad that the other sales people were afraid to have me on design presentations because they thought I'd get tongue tied and blurt out stupid things like I do around numbers time. But to their immense surprise I am cool, calm, collected and very much in charge when it comes to design presentations. I have more than enough confidence when I'm doing what I know, and when I know I do it well.
