    I think everyone here has been in the same boat at one time or another with a very sick cat. Just do what you feel best. You will know. {{Hugs}}

No one will bash you; you and Max are going through an excruciating journey together and only you two will know when you've reached the destination. Hugs and prayers.

Slick I cannot see how anyone could bash - very few people in the world would embark on such a long and painful journey.
It is good to hear Max is not in pain. Only you will be able to decide how HIS quality of life is and I know this counts for you much more than YOUR quality of life.
I can see that this journey comes to an end. Even little Filou is 6 lb and I cannot imagine how he would be at 4 lb- be glad that Max has such big fur around his poor little frame.
I am hugging you and give only very gentle kisses to Max.

Slick, my heart aches for you, I wish I could be there to give you some hugs in person, and help with everything.

I believe Max will tell you when he is not happy with his quality of life - it's just such a hard decision to let him go. I know you are keeping Max as comfortable as possible, and I am glad to hear that he doesn't seem to be in pain. I hope you'll still have some snuggle time with him. Give him all the lovies he will allow. I am sending gentle kisses to your dear boy, and Fister sends purrs.

Big ((((hugs)))) and lots of love.

I canrot see how anyone could bash you Slick , after all that you have done to help Max regain his health.
But sadly we all have so much time on Earth and noone lives forever.
Max has you with him, and that will make becoming an Angel that much easier , knowing that you love him, and will always be there for him.
When a Found Cat passes on to Paradise , I miss them so much , but look at thier movies and remember when we were so much younger.
Prayers for You and Max from us all.

Thank you all. You mean the world to me. I know this is nothing new to most of you, nor to me, but Max is my very first heart kitty. I loved my RB Speckles but Max, well what can I say.

Max was poked, proded and twisted every which way and he just sat there and purred. It was only when the new vet decided to peek into his mouth that I could see there was a little life left in him. Max hissed at the vet. I had to chuckle thinking, there's life in the old boy yet. However since coming back home I can see that he is on a steady decline. It's like he doesn't clue in. Last night I had to place him in front of his food dish and then his eyes kind of said, "Oh yeah, I'm supposed to eat now" and he only ate a few mouthfuls and that was it. This morning the same thing. If I put him on the floor he just stays put as if he doesn't know what to do next. My poor boy really is senile now. You can knock, but no one is home.

He keeps peeing outside his smaller litterbox so yesterday I went to WalMart and purchased one of those "under the bed storage bins". My friend, Elizabeth recommended it. (you've met her, Gini). So last night I filled it up and in goes Max. He thinks it's a bed. Because of the peeing issues, the floor in my condo is covered with towels. I need to go and pick up some pee pads for sure. I also cleaned and removed the two larger litterboxes that he has not used for a couple of months - edges are too high for him to get in.

This morning his eyes are not as bright. Carole, thanks. I'll pick some up and see if he will drink it. I know I tried it on him many years ago and he wouldn't touch it, but now, maybe he won't remember he doesn't like it. Sorry, had to throw a bit of humour in it.

Better get back to work. I'll let this thread rest now. There are many others that need our attention now. The next update will probably be his memorial.

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, champagne in one hand and strawberries in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming WOO HOO - What a Ride!

Sometimes, what we all really need is someone to walk softly beside us, in silence.

We are all walking beside you and Max, silently, to offer you comfort, so that you are never alone. We are here, and will stay here, for you.

Slick, there is nothing that any of us can say that can help you right now. Unfortunately this is never easy time, but love him as much as you can while he is here and remember that you will see him again.

Someone sent this to me earlier, while it is about a dog it can easily apply to any animal...

    A Dog's Purpose (from a 6-year old).

Being a veterinarian, I had been called to examine a ten-year-old Irish Wolf hound named Belker. The dog's owners, Ron, his wife Lisa, and their little boy Shane, were all very attached to Belker, and they were hoping for a miracle.

I examined Belker and found he was dying of cancer. I told the family we couldn't do anything for Belker, and offered to perform the euthanasia procedure for the old dog in their home.

As we made arrangements, Ron and Lisa told me they thought it would be good for six-year-old Shane to observe the procedure They felt as though Shane might learn something from the experience.

The next day, I felt the familiar catch in my throat as Belker's family surrounded him. Shane seemed so calm, petting the old dog for the last time, that I wondered if he understood what wa s going on. Within a few minutes, Belker slipped peacefully away.

The little boy seemed to accept Belker's transition without any difficulty or confusion. We sat together for a while after Belker's Death, wondering aloud about the sad fact that animal lives are shorter than human lives. Shane, who had been listening quietly, piped up, 'I know why.' Startled, we all turned to him. What came out of his mouth next stunned me. I'd never heard a more comforting explanation.

He said, 'People are born so that they can learn how to live a good Life -- like loving everybody all the time and being nice, right?' The Six-year-old continued, 'Well, dogs already know how to do that, so they don't have to stay as long.'

I was doing fine reading through the latest posts. Until I got to Slick's last line in the most recent post. Now I am in tears and hoping nobody needs anything from me here at work for a minute.

Yes, several of us have been in your shoes but it still hurts to hear someone else is experiencing it. It literally is tearing me up!

    Big Hugs to you Slick.
Our goal in life should be - to be as good a person as our dog thinks we are.

Thank you for the siggy, Michelle!

I love both my boys, but Oscar is my heart kitty. They are hale and hearty, but the day will come...

I so feel for you, Slick. Hugs and prayers to you and Max. You have done absolutely everything for your heart kitty.

Thinking of you and Max always.
