the top part of the seat sticks out around the driver's helmet on both sides. His head can indeed hit this padded bar but it will keep it from going any further over. It is far enough away to allow the drivers to turn their heads a little bit. Their helmets are also tethered to their necks by a HANS (Head and Neck Support) device to keep them from going too far forward. Even when the car is flipping over the drivers are so strapped and surrounded by safety equipment that their torsos hardly move.

It's to keep him from turning and smacking the crap out of the kids riding in the back seat.

I have never heard a prayer like that one that was just given before the Nationwide race tonight. Oh my!

Time helps the sadness subside, but the memories remain forever.

Thank you! I'll show this picture to dad. We couldn't tell that it's u-shaped. It just looked like a bar.

I'd like one of those in my car, but bring the front part down lower and please put a heater inside of it for my sore neck after a day of work at my un-ergonomic work station
Praying for peace in the Middle East, Ukraine, and around the world.

Aaahh, I have been defrosted! Thank you, Bonny and Asiel!

I think Marty Smith agrees with me:

Now, for those of us who DIDN'T hear it, and have NO idea what you're
    *hinting at* ...

Could you be a lil more specific about the Prayer?

I don't know how to describe it. It started out like most of the others and then he "got the spirit". It turned into something unbelievable. Imagine these following quotes with the vigor of a worked up preacher. "And now father god we lift up to you these asphalt warriors, these high octane gladiators who risk themselves for the thrill of the race. We pray that you would increase their talents and abilities and you would heighten their senses and awareness...we pray that you'll give them a race that we'll never forget. We pray god that we can have a 3-wide, door banging, drag race to the checkered flag today". Crowd is now worked up into cheers. "Father we believe that nothing but good things are going to come to pass as soon as these men hit the gas." It continued on that way getting more animated the entire time.

Maybe Gilliland's idiocy was triggered by the pre-race prayer?
