    I wouldn't worry about just one instance but repeated occurrences could mean tapeworms (you may or may not see them) or impacted anal glands.

    I agree, some of my cats will do that from time to time, it may mean they have bowels that are too hard or dry, and after using the box, they do that. it IS gross tho. if it keeps happening then take the cat to the vet to check.
