I've heard all that before!
MOM sent me off on my first job in Endwell, New York, armed with similar words
and one of Betty Crocker's famous "beginner's cookin books"!
I got lost half way down the first page ...
I never admitted it to Mom, but I re-gifted the book to who I thought at the time
was a needy young lady. She didn't share my thoughts ... I never got invited for dinner.
(And never saw the cookin book again, either.)
Iffin I can't understand the "directions" printed on the back of the box or bag,
then the "Pretty Picture on the Front" never makes it to the check-out line!

Okay, so it is true - cookbooks don't work iff'n ya don't read 'em! ... Tucking the Fanny Farmer paperback under your pillow won't make the knowledge leak in while you're sleeping, either - it'll just give ya a crick in the neck!
But I will promise to post clarifications to recipes if I think anyone's skippin' a step for ya, okay?

No "assumed steps" ~ That'll help a LOT!
Now, how about the Next Ressipee Problem?
About every other step or so, the Action Verb of the instruction is usually
written in some cryptic foreign language ... requiring a lengthy search for the meaning. --OR--
It's some overly simplistic term with multiple common meanings ...
EggZamplez:
"Cook" ... OK, HOW?? FAST, slow, hot, burning hot, with or w/o water, oil, skins, leaves ???
"Saute" ... Gehzuntite! ... Burn it in Oil ... OK, how do you know when to quit?
"Bring to a Boil, then COOK ..." ~ For the luvva ___! ~ Whas'sa difference?
... Are we gonna BOIL it or are we gonna COOK it?
... Whadda ya do between Boil and Cook ... stand on your head?
Betty and I never seemed to be speakin the same language.
I know I'm in trouble when I open the Wrong End of the can ...
and then can't read all the How To instructions on the label.

If you run into one of these, post the whole thing in context, and I'll clarify! I am a chef? No. I was one of those annoying kids who asked a lot of questions, so owe it to Grandma Peterson (whose only child, my Dad, was probably not nearly as annoying) to patiently answer all questions for the rest of my life! That, and children in my family are encouraged to help in the kitchen starting at age 4 ...
