    Road trip...LOTS of pics...

Yesterday morning we packed up the dogs and went on a road trip. The purpose of the road trip was to find a place where Ramone could try his paw at swimming where there wasn't an abundance of off leash dogs or people on bikes.... Well 2.5 hours later we made it to Beaver Mines Provincial Park.

Mony's first taste of lake water.

Mom, dad threw the ball in the water!

Shut up Clipse I am trying to get it. It keeps floating away.

    Uhoh...it's getting deep.

    Got it.

    Dad, that ones even deeper!

    Got it!

    I'm swimming!!!

I keep getting water in my eyes with this swimming stuff.

    Almost got it...

One of the funniest things is when he first entered the deep water he would start off swimming so smoothly....

...and then he would get so excited trying to get to the ball fast he would start splashing all over the place...

I think he drank half the lake just grabbing the ball from the water.

Em and Clipse in a down stay on the shore. Clipse gets too frantic when there's water involved because he wants to run in circles around Mony as he retrieves, but can't and Em is just too noisy.

Cam (my bf) was on the shore putting one sheltie in a sit stay and getting the other for their swimming lesson. Well someone was paying close attention to what he was saying because when he told the sheltie to sit, Ramone plunked his butt down right where he was... lol

    Clipse gets a swimming lesson.

    So full of hate.

    Em's turn.

This was the first time Cam had helped the shelties go swimming, so he didn't quite wait long enough for Em to get her balance in the water before he let go. Hence... she dunked her head...

Ugh! I am appalled that you would treat me this way!

Mony became obsessed with retrieving the ball in the water. It was hilarious because if we picked the ball up on land he would go all crazy and want it. But if we tried to give it to him he wouldn't take it from us. He only wanted us to throw it in the water. Once we realized he would get it no matter what we started throwing it farther.

The farther we threw it the better he swam. Only splashing on the turns.

    Clipse supervises from the shore.

    Shake!

I'm ready dad! Throw the ball!

Clipse waiting on the shore. We gave the shelties freedom one at a time so that they weren't feeding off each other's energy.

    Batdog! Check out those ears...

Mony waits patiently as we put Clipse back in a stay and release Emily.

Who (suprise, suprise) has something to say about...well...everything!

This is what Mony has to say about Emily's opinion on things.

This was at a different place along the lake. Ramone saw me standing there so he veered toward me, not realizing that the bank was kind of steep and there were a few obstacles to get over.

He ended up turning around and re-entering the water to swim around to where Cam was standing (and where Mony had entered the water in the first place). Still some obstacles to get over, but easy ones.

I know that's a lot of pics... but there are a lot more. If anyone wants to see the full album you can go here:

Couldn't help but smile. Ramone sure did look like he was having a good time. And we know that Clipse is happy anywhere that he can run. And Emily is happiest when she can have her say. Great pictures, I enjoyed the trip.

These are great and nice to see how to help the shelties learn to swim. As a first time dog owner at a later time in life (ok, ok middle age), I always thought dogs would just naturally know how to swim which I've certainly come to realize, they don't always or may have fear of the water. Anyway, Mony is gorgeous and obviously enjoyed her day at the lake.

Great pictures! Looks like Ramone really caught onto the whole swimming thing!

I love this picture though, of Emily!

Poor girl.. she doesn't look to thrill about this whole swimming deal..lol
If you're gonna breed Collies, don't you forget to breed in the brains and common sense. Without that you won't have a Collie, you'll have just another dog.

Great thread - we went to visit Amy and Ralph at a cottage they were renting and Tucker had his first swimming experience. He wouldn't go in by himself but if you took him out aways he would swim back quickly. I don't think he hated it because he kept hanging around the beach instead of moving away like he could have but he wasn't willing to try it by himself either! What fun Mony had! And the girls - not so much!
