I'm still worried about my Puddy

I just don't know. Puddy has been acting strangely all day. She's been crying loudly all day the way she did when she needed surgery. Before though, she cried all night w/out letup. Now she's just doing it occasionally. She was in pain before but she doesn't appear to be now. But she isn't eating. I gave her the appetite stimulant and the antibiotic but she just isn't eating. Now she's just lying there and I don't know if she's lethargic or just resting after a 5 day hospital stay. Sigh. I don't know what to do. Guess I'll watch her through the night and if she hasn't improved, I'll call Dr. Lee. I'm wondering if she just won't do well unless she's on 24 hr. IV. I'm scared again.

It was a long night. Puddy fussed and cried all night long. She get in bed w/me, want a noggin noogie, I'd start to give her one, then she'd jump down, go to the litter box, then get back in bed, then jump down, eat a little bit of Cat Chow, then back in bed, all the time crying. She doesn't appear to be in any pain. I'm just not sure at this point. I'm too tired. I have a tough work day ahead of me and although I'm hesitant to leave her, I have to. If she's still fussy when I get home, I'll take her in to Dr. Lee. I'm going to call him on my way to work this morning. Right now she's quiet. Probably just as exhausted as I am. I don't like making decisions when I'm exhausted.

I am sorry that Puddy isn't doing better and that you are both so tired! I hope that Dr. Lee can give you some advice and that Puddy will be greatly improved when you return home.

At first Dr. Lee thought it might be nausea w/out vomiting. Puddy panics when she vomits. Later, he called me back and said "I've been thinking about this cuz it's driving me nuts. I've treated a few cats in the past who have behaved like this and it turned out they had high blood pressure. Cats have mental problems anyhow. (He actually said that.) But high bp can make them nuttier." Sooo...I'm to give her the nausea medication if she starts crying again and if it works, great. If not, off to Dr. Lee for a Doppler test for bp. Right now she's as quiet as a church mouse but she's in the praying position on my desk, which concerns me. I'm gonna try to grab a brief nap before I go back out for groceries. I'll let you know how she does.

I hope that Puddy is doing better soon. I'm so sorry that you both are having to go through this tough time. I'm sorry but I don't like the comment your vet made about cats. Cats don't have mental problems, they have feelings and pain and sickness, and they have to let us know the best they can! Poor kitty, and poor worried mom!

Maybe he was making a little joke about cats having mental problems, tongue in cheek. I mean, we do know what they can be like

Medusa, you can check my thread about Cleo and hyperthyroidism/high blood pressure if you like. Cleo's BP was up at 180+ a few weeks back. She has now been on Norvask (human BP meds-there isn't any for cats)for about 4 weeks and is doing fine. Last week we went for a check up and it's down to 160. She seems a lot more happy in herself, playful again. When her BP was high she wasn't hyperactive like most of the information I read suggests. Cleo was quiet and withdrawn, didn't want to interact much, slept a lot, disinterested. But she had mild hyperthyroidism too, now medicated and back well within normal range. So her reaction to HBP was not typical, whereas the description you gave of Puddy is, which is perhaps why Dr Lee suggested that's what it might be. He might want to keep her in to take a few BP readings over the course of a few hours as she settles down being there, because a one-off can be misleading if the cat is very hyped-up about being at the vets.

As it is, I have to make a chart for her so that I don't forget to give her one or the other and that I don't give the wrong cat the meds. I think Dr. Lee was simply stating the difference between dogs and cats. Having been "owned" by both , I know what he meant and I didn't take offense. As I said before, he isn't exactly the warm and fuzzy type. But he's got the instinct and the knowledge and that's so important.

Puddy and I had a good night. Yay! When I got home from work, she was quiet but sitting in the praying position and that had me concerned, so I watched her closely. She slept w/me again and she slept soundly, stopping to munch a little through the night. I didn't give her the nausea med because she didn't seem to need it. I worry that so much in her stomach when she wasn't eating right would just make her more nauseated. This morning she seems to be on a mission to get the world record for the longest noggin noogie.

I must go to bed soon but just before I do...zzzzzzzzzzz...ooh sorry dozed off there...have you thought of using a natural remedy for nausea rather than adding another chemical for her liver to have to detox (thus adding to the nausea, = vicious cycle) Another thing I did for Cleo is I took her to a separate homeoepathic vet for something to support her body systems through all the medication (which will now be for the rest of her life). It was a full consult with the vet, she's a traditional vet as well as a homoeopathic one, and she prescribed nux vomica for nausea (quite commonly used for this in humans) and general systemic support, and another remedy as her constitutional remedy (her "personality/general constitution" blueprint remedy) I don't know if you know much about homoeopathy but it is brilliant. Very gentle yet very powerful. Colette was having one of her chuck-up days the other week and I gave her some of the nux vomica and it seemed to help.
Another thing to try would be Bach Rescue Remedy - it's an English thing but is available worldwide. You can get it in a little spray so you can just dab some on her fur and it will be effective. Very effective stuff.
I really must sleep now I've done 44 hours and it's still only Thursday. Day off tomorrow (thank the Lord) TC

Yes, I have thought of the homeopathic route. Unfortunately, there are no homeopathic vets in this area, to my knowledge. But I know of the remedy of which you speak. Not sure how much to give her, though. But I think I'll do some research and see if I can find a homeopathic vet to work in conjunction w/Dr. Lee. Thanx for the suggestion! I just love PT!

i don't know exactly what to think of homeopathic medicine but for Filou i consulted a homeopathic vet as well- and it seems to be one of the things -together with the sub qs that keep him ok.

the homeopathic vet really took his time (2hrs) to meet him and to learn everything about him- very impressive.
