Question

2 of my kitties Owen and Cricket, seem to have "laryngitis" so to speak. Neither of them can meow right, it sounds pitiful. It just started yesterday.
Has anyone else had this happen w/ their kitties, and if so, do you think it will pass or do they need to go to the vet? They are both acting like they feel fine, they are not lethargic and are eating great.

Well yes & no.. I have a couple of babies that sound that way all the time.. Then some of my babies have no problem with volumn.. You for sure should go ahead & get your Vet to check them out just to be on the safe side.. Keep us posted ok.. Be Well Wittle Ones..

Maybe you could call the vet to ask if that is a symptom that he or she is familiar with.

I have always been the one to be very cautious - just to be safe I would make an appointment and have them checked out. If everything is ok, then you are given peace of mind. I hope your babies get there voice back soon!

Trust your instincts. You know your cats. When my Coco Puff's meow changed, I knew something wasn't right. That's when he went deaf due to a sinus infection. He regained most of his hearing, thankfully, but I knew he wasn't right. If I recall correctly, I think I posted that his meow had changed. Call your vet and maybe s/he can reassure you w/out an appt. but, if not, have them checked out. Since they both seem to have laryngitis, it may be something that they'll continue to pass back and forth between them and a vet visit might be able to clear it up.

I called the vet's office and told them about Cricket and Owen. The vet had suggested a year or 2 ago that I give Cricket a half of a chlortab, for her runny eyes that she seems to get during the spring/heavy pollen season. I had noticed that they were running more this week, as well. They said it was probably allergy related so I gave them both some chlortab in a pill pocket when I got home. I wish I had thought about that yesterday. I'll see if that helps them, and if they aren't better by Monday or Tuesday I'll take them to the vet. I should've thought about allergies because I'm also have allergy issues this week, too. Hopefully we will get some rain soon to wash some of the pollen/stuff away.

Our Ralph Syracuse and Nicholas, both BIG talkers, had been known to have lost their voices. To the vet, who checked for obstructions and other things. They came home with no meds. I ran a vaporizer, the boys were on " voice rest," and in a few days later, they were back. I imagine at the Bridge, they are just chatting away....

Allergy was exactly the direction I was thinking - it would definitely change the meow.

Owen's voice is back in full force. I have not heard Cricket "talking" today to see how she sounds. Maybe the allergy pills helped this weekend, or maybe it just worked itself out. I will check Crickey's voice in a few.
