    Help w/Crate 9 Month old

We just got a 9 month old male golden retrevier. He has never been crated trained. We have a 3 month old who does great in his crate. Is it possible to train at this late age (very spolied). The first night we tried to put him in his crate and he barked all night. Any help here

Make the crate a happy experience. When he goes in it, feed him treats, don't close the door, feed him the treats with the door open. When he gets used to that, you can feed him the treats with the door closed. Soon, when he gets used to that, you can leave, come back, feed him the treats, go away for longer, come back and feed him treats. Go longer distances and stay longer, and soon, he'll get so used to it, you can go away for a very long time. Hope I could help you!

first question i ask is why do you need to crate him, is he destuctive, is he not house trained ?
if there is no reason to crate him... other than it is just something you want to do why bother?, get him a nice comfy bed, make sure he knows that is his spot and let him alone.
I have never crated any of my dogs and they do just fine.

Happy to say, we did not crate him. He loves sleeping on the bed. The puppy loves the crate. so its all working out.

    Thanks

Glad things are working out now.

I always crate my dogs at night. They get into things without supervision.
