Oh no, not again!!! Luna has a real bad bladder infection! :(

Today after work, I spoke to my vet about further options regarding Luna and her bladder infections. The last one was before Christmas, she was on antibiotics, and we did a urialysis with the result that there were no crystals, but still slight signs of infection. I was supposed to wait one week after the antibiotic treatment was finished, then we planned to send another urine sample to another lab to have Luna tested for e.coli. This is what we discussed today.

Now I'm home for half an hour, and I find Luna being very ill again! She has thrown up earlier (only liquid), and the last 15 minutes, she's constantly peeing little drops of urine on "rug", the first one reddish - obviously with blood in it. So it has hit her very bad again.

Just called my vet, but only spoke to her husband (the office time hours are already over), but I guess I have to bring her in tonight for another antibiotic shot. Will this ever end??? My poor poor girl!!!

Another bad thing is: Now she'll be on antibiotics again, so there's no chance the next week to test her for e.coli!

We're just back from the vet's.

This time, Luna got Amoxicillin, not Marbocyl. With Marbocyl, we would have to wait several weeks again before we can do the e.coli-test, and my vet thinks we should do that as soon as possible. I'm also afraid that Luna is getting resistant to Marbocyl.

I hope I'll be able to get a urine sample from her, because I really want the e.coli-test NOW. I almost hope it will be positive, because in that case I'd know what we're dealing with, and we could try immunization.

Poor Luna...wonder why this keeps happening to her? My Bo has constant nasal problems that we can never get rid of. We've tried everything. They now want to run the tube up her nostrils to see if there's a growth or something. I really hate to put her through it, but afraid I'll have to cave in here. Good luck with Luna.

Poor Bo! I'm sorry that he's having these problems! Hopefully it's no growth. Could it be that he is allergic to something? But I guess you already tried to find out...

I hate to see my Luna-girl being put through all this! If it's not e.coli, we have to keep on searching, there MUST be a reason why this is always coming back!

Sometimes it's so strange! My vet told me today she had recently had a six months-old male kitten with a very bad blockage (struvite stones). How can a cat that young get such a nasty thing?!? Poor little guy!

We spent several hundred $$$ taking Bo to an allergy specialist. We opted to not have test after test done on her. Her culture came back that she has a bacteria (long name and can't remember) and it's one of the nastiest kind. Only a certain antibiotic will work on it, which we've adminstered several times now, but it just keeps coming back. *sigh* It's hard on all when we can't get to the bottom of these problems and get them cleared up. Good luck to you and Luna and ridding this once and for all.

I'm sorry! This sounds really complicated! Poor Bo!

Well, as Luna's UTIs come and go all the time (and this goes for years), I fear it's going to be a neverending story.

These things can be so frustrating!

    Best wishes to Bo!

It must be really frustrating with these ongoing, mysterious problems. I always think it's better to have a known illness that can be treated and cured than one of those horrible unknown issues. Good luck to both of you, I hope you find out what's causing the problems and get the right cure for them.

We are sorry to hear that Luna is ill.
I know how frustrating that can be,as I had to go through that with Pouncer and Scrappy.
I know that Non Cat Lovers do not realize the stress that having Our Friends being ill can have on us.

Kirsten, I'm so sorry to hear about this. I sure hope that this test will show you what you're dealing with and give you some answers. Lots or prayers and positive thoughts are being sent your way. Please continue to keep us updated.

Have you ever heard of cosequin? It's for arthritis in cats but it has also been shown to form a protective lining on their bladder so that they are less likely to have problems. I've been giving it to both Storm and Sunny but I'm not consistant so I don't know if it's really helping them or not.

    Thank you everyone.

I was able last night to get a urine sample of her, and I brought it to the vet this morning. It will take a couple of days before the result comes back from the lab.

Luna has lost a lot of fluid last night because she didn't get only an antibiotic, but also a diuretic. Now she seems to have lost some weight and I'm really worried. Posted more about it here.
