The lady, Betsy, that owns the boarding kennel I work at, I also used to clean stalls in her barn, and I boarded my horse there for a while. It's just a little 6 stall barn behind her house. Let's just say, she dosen't know a great deal about horses, and always forgets to make appointments to do shots, teeth, feet, etc.
Okay, so when I was there she had a Rocky Mountain mare, a yearling filly from the mare, a QH mare that was pregnant, and a Rocky Moutain yearling from the mare. The yearling was not weaned until she was 2 years old. She was not lead trained until I got there. She did not have her wolf teeth pulled until she was 2 1/2 years old (you're supposed to get the teeth pulled at about 6months, or whenever they come in). I quit there for a while, got my horse, and decided to board her there, and I actually ended up working there again. By then the quarter horse mare had given birth. Well...once again, the babu had barely had halter on her, and she was 2 or 3months old. So, me and the other lady that boarded there started to try and work with her, but it wasn't very consistent because I had my own horse to work with. We also started riding her two mares because she had pretty much never rode them, but they had some HUGE issues, especially the QH mare. I finally quit cleaning stalls for her-I never meant to even work there, and this other lady who had NO clue came in to clean them. By this time, the baby was 6 months old, and was starting to kick. Anytime you walked close to it, it would turn around and try to get you. Trying to catch it, especially if it didn't have a halter on, was a nightmare. Like I said, me and the other lady found ways around this to work on her, and we were okay, but the one lady, Terry, who was doing the stalls was getting bullied almost every night. We mentioned this to Betsy, the owner, and she said noo, the baby is sweet-she just wants you to scratch her butt, and gets mad when you don't.It then got the point where you carried a plastic pitchfork with you, because the baby would run up to you, rear, and come down on you. I moved my horse shortly after this, for that among other reasons.
On the baby, she was getting round dark colored lumps on her, one on the inside of her back leg, one above her eye, and I think one on her neck...Betsy wasn't concerned (oh, they're spider bites..). When I had my vet out to do shots, she asked if he would do her shots as well..so that turned into a long day for both the vet and I. When I brought the baby in, I pointed out the lumps-he was concerned and wanted to drop her and biopsy the one on her leg right away, so I tried to call Betsy, and she wasn't answering the phone. So I left her messages, but she never called back until about 10 minutes after the vet left. As far I know, she still hasn't gotten the biopsy done, she constantly forgets things.![]()
So I've been gone for awhile-there was a lot going on there I didn't want to be a part of, especially because I had started working at the boarding kennel. I was talking to her yesterday and she said that she's sending her rocky mountain mare up to breed with her stud again this week.I can't believe it. The rocky mountain yearling is ready to be broke...and I know the QH baby needs some work, she herself said she's a brat. It's just horrible.
I don't think you should be breeding if you don't know what you're doing...
