Does anyone know about lien releases? Can you get a title with a lien release? I think it means that I have successfully paid the car off.Am I right?

It's been awhile, but my recollection was that the bank which lent the money for the vehicle actually retained the title. When it was paid off, they gave it to you. If you have the title to the vehicle, it would mean it was paid off.Originally Posted by david p

Davidp,
Rachel is right. The finance company holds the title to the car till it's paid off. Once it's paid off, they should send you the title.

David, once you get the old title with the lien release signed off,
make sure you take it to the DMV.
Lots of people end up loosing the title before taking
it to the DMV and end up having to go back to the lien holder
to sign off another lien release.
