    Cool Potty training problem

So, my Chihuahua pup, Delilah is about 16 weeks now and has no problem going "poopy" on potty pads. However, she just squats and pees where ever and when ever. I keep taking her to her potty box but she just doesn't seem to "get it". Any suggestions, thoughts, ideas?

If that doesn't work (though it should help) then what you have to do is when she potties in the right spot, and she goes (or squat like they have to go) LOTS OF PRAISE and positive attention!! When she goes somewhere else don't give her any attention at all for it. If you catch her in the ACT of peeing where she's not supposed to, tell her "NO!" then pick her up and place her on the pad and if she goes, even a little bit, PRAISE!!!!

It's a tedious process and a very frustrating one too!

If she's 16 weeks though, can't you start training her to go outside??

Well this is the internal debate I have. I wanted to potty pad train her because it gets so cold in the winter here in Iowa - and she only weighs 4 pounds. I do take her out with Samson when he goes out, though. She seems to just think she can squat whnever and where ever she wants. I have been using potty training spray aid from day 1. You're right, it's a frustrating and tedious process. Samson was much easier to train than Delilah and maybe I just expect too much from her. Maybe I should take away the pads and just start taking her out regardless of the weather and see if that works better!

Well however you want to train her, the key is CONSISTANCY. If you're going to train her outdoors, train her outdoors. If you're going to train her indoors, train her indoors. But mixing the two can leave her confused and think she can go wherever she wants.

Have you thought of litter training???
