A new addition to Angies Animal House ..lol.

Its not what you think, its not a hound or a bunny its a pigion.

Yep a pigion ...lol.. Its a baby it has all its feathers but its small not flying yet.

My dad seen it wondering around the yard at his work a couple days ago and noticed it was getting weaker today and also noticed it couldn't fly, when he came home for lunch today he told me about it so I sent him back with a cage to bring him home in, I couldn't stand to leave it out in the cold in all this snow wandering and not being able to fly. He is now sleeping in a big pile of straw all warm and happy.

Does anyone know what I can feed him ????? He ate some rolled oats (the baking and cooking kind) but I don't think he can live off that untill the stores start selling worms.

I'll post a pic tomorrow I didn't want to scare him with the big flash I thought I would wait till he settled in and got calmed down.

Bread is good. Also, regular bird feed would work too. I don't know much about birds, and I've never had one. If an Orscheln's or some other animal supply store sells crickets, that might work too. I don't know, just what I think.

I will try ripping the bread up in tiny peices, thanks. He will eventually eat worms but its still a baby and worms are not for sale around here yet but I'll look into some pet supply stores and see if they have worms I'll have to cut them up I checked on him through the night and he was sleeping peacefully this morning he was up and cooing out the window.

When I look up pigeons on the net all I get is pigeon controll and that just makes me sick.

Call your vets office and ask them for the name of the nearest wildlife preservation office or something similar. There are groups out there who take in injured wildlife from birds to squirrels to whatever. I simply cannot remember the name of our statewide group right now. But my point is that perhaps your vet can direct you to someone who will know what to feed the bird. They will be delighted that they don't need to take it in, just give you direction on feeding and caring for it.

I can remember giving canned dog food in small amounts to little birds we handraised when I was a child and bits of boiled egg. Make sure the bird has access to clean water too (of course you already know that ). Let us know what happens.

Thanks Logan thats a great idea, if I can't find the number surely the shelter will know it.

Thank you so much for the link, that helps alot. I had no idea they sold special pigeon food or that pigeons needed salt and minerals. Hannah and I went to Berrys pet supply store today and got some seed, spray mullet, and dishes and bird things I told the lady at the store what they were for and she never said anything about pigen food ?? She looked at me like why are you bothering??. Im going to have to get some salt and things tomorrow. I phoned wildlife they gave me little instructions, wild bird seed lots of water a clean dry place ... But around here pigeons are frowned apon. They even have traps set around to trap them But this little pigeon does not have to worry about that, he'll stay at Angie's Animal House for life

Thanks for the help I'll keep you posted.

    Sad news

The little pigeon passed away last night. I don't know what happened it was doing so well. It was eating and drinking and just loved to lay in the sun ??? I was a bit shocked to find him gone.

I had phoned the vets yesterday to make an appointment for Simba ( he got into a fight and now his ear has swollen three times the size of the other, we have a pesky cat around the house that attacks him when ever he goes outside) and asked if they had info on raising a pigeon and she said she would have a package ready for me when I brought Simba in and then this happens.

    Maybe it was lonelyness ??
