Crosspost from Dog Health - Roscoe chewing under his tail

I posted this in dog health too:

Roscoe has been chewing on a spot under his tail next to his bum. I looked, but haven't found anything there. I heard that this is a sign of worms? I also heard that it could be a dry spot that a little vegetable oil would help. What do you guys think?

BTW, I did make a vet appointment for Saturday (I need to get him in for shots anyway).

    Thanks for your help!

Could his anal glands be bothering him, maybe?

Good luck and let us know what you find out from the vet!

It sounds like his anal glands, is he starting to smell around that area? Does he scoot around on it?

You can do the anal glands youself of get a vet to check them out if your also worried about worms

He will smell it a little, then start chomping away. I haven't noticed any scooting. What can I do for anal glands?

It's best to let a vet deal with it if it is the anal glands. They will express them (release the nasty fluids) if it is his anal glands. A VERY smell job.
