Thinking about getting Fish

ummm,.... maybe you can go to a pet store or fish supplies store (that carries multi-fishes) and see what you like?

there are tw different kind of waters, salt & fresh..depend on what fish you find. salt water has more maintance (temp, salts) than fresh (regular) water fish.

goldfishes & bettas are the easier fishes to take care of, I don't know the others.

The basics for freshwater fish: tank, gravel, some plants, a filter, food, thermometer, a small net, stress coat or similar product or filtered water. You could also use a small test kit, which is useful especially in the beginning when you're cycling your tank and trying to make the level stable. However, I know petsmart tests your water for free, so that's another alternative. You might need a heater depending on the temperature in your house and the kind of fish you want. Certain kinds of fish are more sturdy and can handle changes in temperature with relative ease, but others find it highly disruptive.

Just be sure to go to a fish store for advice. Look in the phone book or online for a fishie supply store. You're more likely to get sound advice by talking to someone who knows what they're doing. I never buy fish at a place like Walmart or Petsmart (I even love Petsmart) because you never really know what you're getting. Some people would disagree with me, I'm sure.

Remember, goldfish (and other fish like Oscars) are very dirty fish, so if you end up with goldfish, make sure you have a good filtration system and a large enough tank to be able to keep it sparkling clean.

Please do not buy any fish before you reseach a little bit. The only fish that can survive long term in a bowl without a filter is a betta!

First decide what kind of tank would you like, then pick the fish out to match the tank. I would think a 15 or 20 gallon would be great to start out with. Reseach "fishless cycle", and what kind of tank you would like, and please do not buy anyfish the same day as you buy the tank. the tank should be installed, decorated, and cycled before you buy any fish.
