Is there such a thing as 'Only Dog Syndrome'?

My parents got a dog from a rescue group (who was in a lot worse condition than stated, but that's besides the point) who apparently was raised with other dogs and was in a foster home with other dogs.. he's in a home with no other dogs, and only seems to come to life when I bring Trixie over..

We're wondering if he's very lonely and needs a companion.. Is there a non-medical condition or syndrome like that? Where he needs a playmate?

I don't know if there is one, but the dog could be miss the companionship of other dogs especially since that's what he's
used to. I did recognize this in my dog Smokey. Having Maggie
to play & pal around with has made him very happy.
