Today it broke the 60 F mark, so I gave myself the afternoon off, loaded up the T's and went out to Quarry Nature Preserve for awhile. I have a season pass and it's only 4-5 miles from where I live, so I plan to go more often this year. With everything in the midst of thawing, it was quite a mess out there, but beautiful too. I ended up having to turn back on some trails because they turned into mini lakes and mudpits where the snow and ice have been melting. The pups got thoroughly filthy, but we had a good time. I took a bunch of pics, and thought I'd share a few. Hope you enjoy. I apologize in advance that they are varying sizes. Some I liked to zoom in and crop, others I liked more background in, and I didn't really work to keep them all the same size.
This is what all the old quarries look like right now. This is the one I posted pictures of Tommy and Tasha by last fall, where Tommy took his first plunge and swam. The pitted appearance is from the water freezing, snow falling on top of the ice, and then all of it partially thawing and refreezing constantly over the past couple weeks. It really looked gorgeous.
Another with the sun shining on it
Baby girl
Tommy getting a drink. The ice has thawed all along the edges.
Tash wanted to dig at the patch of snow/ice for some reason.
This is one of the paths I had to turn back on, and this pic was one of the "dryer" parts of it!
Running back to me when I called them. I let them drag their leashes in the more remote areas. That is slobber coming out of Tommy's mouth LOL
Another quarry
You can see how filthy they were getting
