    Then & Now...

I said in my other posts that I wanted to find an old picture of Antare to show how far he's come.

This is his first picture for the shelter website, taken almost exactly three years ago.

Antare is in front looking at the camera, his brother, Delta is behind him. They spend most of the next six months in that exact same position. They shook when anyone came near them, the volunteers couldn't walk them as they would just lay down and refuse to move. The whole world was a big scary place for both of them.

They came here in August 2002. We had just had the worst fostering experience ever. The shelter didn't want us to quit fostering so they offered Delta and Antare. They didn't have an aggressive bone in their bodies & loved other dogs so they would fit in this pack. Once we finally got them out of the truck, they did fit right in with the dogs. Not so much with us, humans were still terrifying.

This is one of the first pictures I got of Antare. I had to corner him and carry him across the yard to get him in the house.

This is the first one of Delta. He was even more scared than Antare.

This is Delta more recently! He's still very timid, but he's come a long way. We can pet him now and he takes treats from my hand.

Antare has come even farther. He's a great little sled dog. He loves hanging out in the house. He's still shies away from new things, but once he's seen something a couple times he's fine with it.

    He's my brave little man.

Delta and Antare are both gorgeous! And you can see from your pictures how far they have come. You have done a good job. Antare is so fluffy and soft looking. Makes me just want to cuddle up to that furry lil guy!

That's awesome, It is so great to read "Adoption Success Stories". Who knows what would/could have happened to them if they didn't end up with you!!

What lucky boys to be able to stay together and get such a great home! So satisfying to see the changes in them. I love the one of Antare with his eyes shut and that big grin, too!

Those poor dogs! I hate to even think about what they went through in their lives. And that pic of Anatare is just great! I liked it so much that I cleaned it up for you. What a beautiful definition of what a dog's life should be. I've got one of Duke in the pumpkin patch like that. It's one of my favorites.

I did the right thing by setting you free
But the pain is very deep.
If only I could turn back time, forever, you I'd keep.
    I miss you

I hear you whimper in your sleep
I gently pet you and say, no bad dreams
It will be alright, to my dog as dark as night.

Fur as dark as the night.
    Join me on this flight.
Paws of love that follow me.
In my heart you'll forever be.

How I wish I could hold you near.
Turn back time to make it so.
Hug you close and never let go.

Thanks! I wish I could figure out how to do that!
