    Zippy's Bunny's Sick

Argh! Seems we just can't get rid of the tummy problems. Poor lil' Sophie's tummy aches are back. I *HATE* that she suffers like this. We were doin' so well and now it's hit again. I don't know what caused it, other than a few green beans last night, nothing in her diet has changed. No changes in cage location, etc etc.

Came home from work, Soph was huddled in the corner--not too unusual...opened the cage door to take her out. Her poor bum was matted together (with poop). To make a long story short, she now has a potty trak and is hiding behind my toliet.

GRRRR....wish we could kick the tummy aches once and for all!!!

If Sophie is having tummy problems it's most likely something she ate. According to my rabbit specialist vet the beans in green beans are not good for bunnies. That may be the problem. I would change her diet immediately by giving her all the timothy hay she can eat (NOT alfalfa), NO PELLETS, fresh leafy veggies (no iceberg lettuce but all other lettuces are fine), absolutely no fruit while her tummy is upset. No broccoli until the upset is gone for several days.
This situation needs to clear up within a day or two and if it doesn't take her to a vet who specializes in rabbits. With any gastrointestinal problem, bunnies can get sick and die within a few days if not corrected quickly. Help her keep her butt clean too.
    Hope this helps. Good luck.

So sorry you're not feeling too well , Miz Sophie! Got a *bad bean* in Sunday's dinner? Sure do hope you get all the yuckies cleaned out real soon and start feeling better!

Are you and Momma Zip going to visit the White Coat's Lab to get things checked out? Would pepto-biz-yuck help? Try to stick with the plain old Timmy hay till your insides settle down.

We're all hoping for a quick recovery. Paws and fingers are crossed!!

That was the first--and last--time Sophie's had green beanies. But unfortunately, it's not the first time we've had tummy aches. I knew she was ill the first day I brought her home--and she's been to the vet numerous times for the same thing. Her tummy spells come and go--sometimes they last a few hours, other times a few days. The vet--bluntly but honestly--told me that she doesn't feel everything is right with Sophie (internally). And at one point, we were making daily trips to the vet--this was when she had a less than 30% chance to make it. Luckily, Sophie's a fighter.

Up until last night, she hadn't had a tummy spell in months! I thought maybe she "grew out of them."

With the exception of the last night's green beans, we stick to a diet of timmy hay, pellets, parsley, cilantro, carrot tops, brocolli, and the (very) occasional tidbit of banana, apple, or cracker. She also gets pineapple juice once a week to aid in digestion.

I'm on lunch break right now, and by looking into the litter box, it appears everything's "coming out ok."

    She's asleep under the bed.

    Thanks for your comments/concerns!

Tonya, I'm so glad Sophie Bunny is better!! Here I am telling Helen, Honey and Lilly what great things green beans are.....but poor Sophie shouldn't have any!

Take good care of your baby. We'll say a little prayer for her, just in case.
