HELP with formal wear for winter

Aarrgg I've got a date for this Friday, which I just found out last night that it is formal. Um, I'm NOT a formal person. Nice jeans & a sweater is how I dress up.

I have no clue what to wear that would be formal AND suitable for winter, this Fri is supposed to be single digit temps. (If it was summer I'd have no problem)

I guess I could get a nice sweater & put that over a dress, but my feetsies will be frozen!

We are going to see a play at a theatre.

How about a pantsuit? It'll come with a jacket and you can wear a heavier coat overtop of that.

I'd love to, but I think he wants to see me in a dress/skirt.

It depends on the style of the dress.

This is really cute, and would look fantastic with black thigh/knee-high heel boots. It's only $39.99 at Target.com.

If you're willing to spend a little more, check out Bluefly.com. They've got designer dresses for less (not all of them are cheap but if you take the time to look through every page of dresses or whatever, you'll find something reasonable).

Basically, if you've got a classy or Sunday looking dress going on, boots aren't the shoes to wear. If it's a cute, funky dress or skirt though, it can work.
