I feel dumb not knowing this, but...

Can dogs have apples? We have some cookies that have apples cooked in them so I know cooked ones are ok, but can they have raw apples? Chester's begging his brains out for a bite, and I'd like to give it to him as a healthier snack.

Muskwa loves apples. I always give him some when I eat one. Never seen any ill effects.

apples are fine... Apple seeds arnt..

apple seeds contain a cyanide compound which commonly occurs in the seeds or kernels of apples. Acute intoxication and death have been reported in children following the ingestion of apricot seeds, which are capable of releasing 217 mg of cyanide per 100 g of moist seed.

so i am assuming that they are dangerous for dogs.....

Wow, I'll be sure to core the apple completely. Good to know they can have them. Chester's about to be a very happy boy!

    Thank you, ladies!

Absolutely, apples and carrots just might be the best treats for dogs and much like kids, they love them and have no idea that they are good for them (and for the love of Pete, don't tell them!). It was very good advice though to thoroughly seed the apple as I have heard before that they contain cyanide and while a few may have no effect whatsoever, many seeds over a long period of time very well may. Happy (healthy) treating!!
