    Trying T&P's mom's litter suggestion - Exquisicat

Debbie, I remember you telling us about Exquisicat litter at PetsMart and how you really liked it so I went out and bought a big box yesterday and just scrubbed down two of the boxes and filled them with the new litter. Boy it is dusty but I do love that there is no scent. I added a handful of baking soda to see if it will cut down on the dust as suggested by other PTers.

So far Jazz and Rocky, who are my litter supervisors have been out to the litterbox room to investigate. No users yet, but Rocky came back in with a blob of it stuck on his nose. Why does he alwyas have to stick his nose in the litter?

Anyway, Debbie, I was wondering if you are still happy with it and what others who have tried it think? I still have Tidy Cat in the other three boxes but I really hate how the clumps fall apart and how it sticks to Ripley's rear end. Also, I've noticed that a disgusting thick layer of gunk forms on the bottom of the litter boxes with Tidy Cat. Now with five cats I notice it forms quickly even though I scoop the boxes daily, sometimes twice daily.

I switched from traditional litter to Feline Pine and I love that stuff! Love that it's flushable so I don't have to make frequent trips outside to the dumpster.

Yes, I still like it. Of course now that it's been just Peanut for the last few weeks, and she is such a little neat nick, I really love it! But it is dusty and I really discovered that while we were in the motorhome. I got the smell of dust (even though there is no odor) stuck in my nose and it wouldn't leave for days! So off to the store it was to buy some baking soda. I do believe that helped, but I didn't add enough at first. I realized how much it helped when we finally got back home and the un-baking soda-ed litter was still being used in the basement. Whew! I just about suffocated myself with the dust! So, off to the store for some new baking soda for the house litter boxes.

Don't know how it's going to work with CJ though. Don't know if it was the new litter or the new surroundings or what, but he really made a mess last night. Will have to report back on that subject.

Debbie, I've noticed that every new cat I've brought in the house is messy in the litter box for the first week or so. We fostered a cat two summers ago and it was true for her too.

If you are going to continue adding baking soda one money saving suggestion is to go to a pool supply store and buy a big bag of soda from them. It's a lot cheaper than boxes from the grocery store. We buy it in 50 pound bags for around $20 because we use it in our swimming pool to increase the PH. I think in pool supply they call it sodium bicarbonate or something like that. Whatever it's chemical name is.

Didn't think I'd need that much of it, but you have a good point. I'll have to look into it.

Is Exquisicat that stuff made from orange peels???

I went to PetSmart the other day and saw this new stuff (can't remember the name). I thought it was rather odd when I read the label to see what it's made of. It says it's made of ground up orange peels. Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought cats HATED any citrus smells.

I had been using Feline Pine. Loved it!! But a woman at the local feed store turned me on to something that works fine, although it doesn't last as long as FP, but it's cheap so I really don't care. They are Wood Stove Pellets. They come in a 40 lb. bag for $5 compared to $8.99 for a 20 lb bag of FP. It works for now. Maybe once I start working full time I'll switch back to Feline Pine.

Hmm . . . you're definitely right about that! Cats HATE citrus. Most do anyway . . . Brodie hides under the couch whenever I'm peeling an orange

Hmmm...I have no idea! I guess I'll have to check the ingredients when I get home. It would be interesting if it was because I know T & P have always hated oranges and such....

No this isn't made of orange peels. It looks a lot like Tidy Cat but maybe just a little bigger in size and I got the unscented which has no scent, just dust.

That does sound odd for a product in cat litter. I know my gang wouldn't want to use anything with citrus in it.
