Busted Blood Vessel In My Eye

I don't know anything about this stuff, but I think I may have busted a blood vessel in my eye. Does anyone know what this means? I don't remember poking or scratching my eye. All I know is I was sitting at the computer and I could kind of feel my eye hurting or burning. I don't know what you would call it. I didn't even think too much about it. I got off the computer and went to do dishes and then went into the bathroom where I walked past the mirror and noticed my eye looked funny. Looked more closely and it actually looked like it was bleeding I took some pics for you all to see. Has anyone had this happen before? I sent the pics to my parents and they think I should call and talk to a nurse. Dad says he has heard that it happens to people who have high blood pressure. My blood pressure is always good. I just had one of my regular check ups maybe a month ago and all was fine.

I'll attach a couple of pics.

Robin, this used to happen to my Dad a LOT. It was from VERY high blood pressure. I think you should call your Dr.

This happened to me once. It was the only time in my life that I ever mixed liquor and beer while having a few drinks.

The next morning, I got sick about 3 times. Didn't really notice anything until I got to work the next day. A co-worker of mine noticed and called her boyfriend who worked for an ophthalmologist. He said it looks nasty, but it needs to heal on its own.

He said it looks bad for about a week, do not mess with your eyes, no rubbing, no contacts, no eye drops. Also he said it might look worse before it looks better, but that is normal.

They said I was just straining too hard when I was getting sick (throwing up).

However, if you weren't in a situation like mine, then I would definitely agree that you might want to have your blood pressure checked. Personally, I don't have problems with blood pressure, so that was definitely not the cause of my problem.

I hope you feel better soon!

OMG!!! OUCH!!!!! You poor thing Robin. That looks so painful.

I have no idea what it could be, but do you have high blood sugar? I know diabetes 'can' affect your eyes, but I don't think I've ever heard of something like that happening. Either way, go see a doctor. Hope you feel better soon. I can't get over how painful that looks. Just seeing the picture made my eyes hurt! Keep us updated!

    OUWIE!!

    Robin ~
Please don't *ignore* this - you don't want to put off getting
it looked at by a "pro"!

At the very least, go to a WallyMart or Sears - they have
Optical Depts with Eye Specialists that will usually give an
    exam for "free".

Their "Specialists" are NOT MD / Doctors - but they do know the
basics and could offer suggestions of what it might be and
what kind of Doctor you should go to.

And I'd drop into the WallyMart PHARMACY, too -
have the Pharmacist check your blood pressure.
He'll prolly tell you to use their "machine" - not 100% accurate; but
will give you an indication if your PB is high.
    Show him/her the eye, too.

Please - get it *LOOKED AT*!!

Well, I took a little nap and woke up and of course it looks a wee bit worse. The blood looks like it is starting to spread up and around the blue of my eye. It doesn't bother me much, kind of burns sometimes. I could almost swear that I can feel the blood moving around when the burn thing is going on.

I have called my Dr. and for some strange reason they have closed at 12 today The answering service didn't even know what was going on and had to call me back to let me know. I'm sitting here waiting by the phone for the on call doctor. If he doesn't call soon I do have a clinic that I might be able to get into. Thanks for all the advice everyone. I'll update you when I know something more.

    OUCH!!
I have seen eyes like this once: it was a woman who had just given birth to her son! Some vessels in her eye just "broke" because of all the "pression" to get her son into this world.
I would see a doctor, just to be sure!
I miss you enormously Sydney, Maya, Inka & Zazou Be happy there at the Rainbow Bridge

Both my eye doctor and the family on call doc said for me to go to our Urgent Care facility. No one can get me in on this busy Friday afternoon. I hate this. Its just a big waste of money. I'm frustrated and to top it off the girls just toppled over the christmas tree!!!!!

    This day off really sucks!!!!!

    I'm headed to Urgent Care...

It's a fairly common occurence Robin and there is no treatment for the ruputred vessels themselves, except time. It can be caused by high blood pressure, coughing very hard or a really violent sneeze, bearing down (if you know what I meand) anything that might cause an increase in the intraoccular pressure. I would get it checked out but it's not an emergency situation as far as your eye is concerned. The important thing is to make sure there isn't a more serious underlying cause, like high BP. Try not to worry but do get it checked out You didn't do something to injure your eye, did you?

Just read you're on your way to urgent care. Glad you're getting it checked out for your own peace of mind

P.S...I speak from experience; has happened to me when I've had a bad chest cold and coughed very hard

I hope it's nothing serious. I grossed out a friend at work by letter her look at your pic. I'm sorry the dogs toppled the tree. I thought it was just cats that did that Check in when you get back.

OUCH! I'm glad to hear you are not playing around with this and getting to the urgent care center. A co-worker of mine had that. There was no treatment and it went away within about 2 weeks.
