May I have a Hot Toddy please.....preferrably tall, dark and rich.....
Heard on the news that it was 24 years ago today that John Lennon was shot. I remember the day like it was yesterday.

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, champagne in one hand and strawberries in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming WOO HOO - What a Ride!

I was working at an insurance co and hating every second of it!!!

Can I have a big cherry vanilla coke to dull the painful memories?

Oh, and can't forget the 4 catnip teas! They get in such a snit when I forget!

Twenty years ago I was a single mom working 60+ hours a week to make ends meet. Had been dating Dick (my SO) for a couple of years, but still lived in my own house.

    I was about 30 pounds lighter. Had a lot less wrinkles and gray hair. {sigh}

But wasn't nearly as smart as I am now!

Single Mom, trying to raise two teenagers. Working a straight (9 to 5) job during the day and waitressing at night. One big ol' dear dog and three cats. Except for the kids, cats and dog I was at a pretty miserable point so keep the nostalgia and I'll have a strong DOTD please kind sir. What's with the simple syrup? Can I have some complicated syrup? Ya trying to short change me or something ?

Oh I could use an Old Fashioned right now please barman! Going Christmas shopping tomorrow, I need the sustenance!

Slick, I remember that like it was yesterday too. I put the news on that morning and loads of people were being interviewed, everyone was in shock, but I didn't know who it was they were speaking about. I could only imagine that Ronald Reagan had been assasinated before his inauguration, because from the commentary on the radio, it was obviously someone extremely famous and it was obviously a big deal! I was stunned when I heard it was John Lennon.

Lets see, what was I doing in 1984? Hmmm, I'm not sure that I can remember that far back! I remember it was one of the best summers we ever had! Wall to wall sunshine.

    Richard,

Now that I can come back to the bar ( spent the last two weeks taking care of wife and newborn) I'll have a DOTD, and I'll bring the Bailey's and a bottle of Godiva for those who want a little "adult" hot chocolate.

Let's see - 20 years ago I had just graduated college and was trying to figure out what I was to do now! I was about 10 lbs lighter, fewer wrinkles....but no pets in my life

But it wasn't for long that I didn't have a fur friend - within 6 months I had my first - of many!

    An DOTD for me please!

I didn't know anybody outside the state of Wisconsin knew what an Old Fashioned was! I remember the first time my mom came to visit me in Chicago and we went to dinner. She ordered an Old Fashioned and we had to tell the bartender how to make it.

My standard order - when I ordered Old Fashioneds on a regular basis that is - was an old fashioned sweet with olives. Cherries come standard with a "sweet" and olives come standard with a "sour" but I preferred the olives, so Richard, how 'bout an Old Fashioned sweet with olives? Haven't had one of those in a long long long time!

Ok, now for 20 years ago.....hmmm.....let me think for a minute.....I was 22 years old and had just moved into my first apartment all by myself (had apartments before, but always with roomies - got sick of roomies and moved in by myself). I was quite the wild child, but was living the good life, making relatively good money with nothing to spend it on but partying and toys. Usually out in the bars every night, some of those nights I don't remember coming home but I always made it home in one piece amazingly, except for the night I was stone cold sober and a drunk driver side swiped me. She was so drunk she didn't even know she hit anybody and kept going. A guy in a pick-up truck saw the whole thing happen and took off after her and the cops actually pulled him over until he explained what happened and that's why he was chasing her! When they finally pulled her over, she got out of the car and promptly fell down. The only good that came out of this was that my 18 year old brother bought my smashed car and that, along with the insurance money, was enough so I could buy my very first brand-new car. I was so excited.

So for me, life was good in '84. I had already dumped the loser boyfriend in April of '83, so I recovered nicely from that and was on my way! On my way to what it took me awhile to figure out, and I'm still not sure I know! On that note, I think I'll take my Old Fashioned off to the couch by the fire and reminisce/contemplate a little.
