    Welcome Home

This is my new baby. I got him yesteray from a breeder friend. I'm thinking of the name Casey, but Ideas are welcome. This is not my first hamster, I have had many. I am also a member of the California Hamster Association.
He is a silver gray pearl black long haired rex syrian hamster. Similar to the rex in rats, curly whiskers, and raised hair. The rex and silver gray genes are new to the United states. They where shipped in last year, along with a few other colours/genes. In north America. Rexes are on the East Coast, West coast, and Canada. Anywaysm just thought I'd share my new cutie with you... Too bad I can't make a signature picture.. I don't have the programs.

Rebekah, Welcome to PT. Your hammy is cute. I used to have hamsters, but it's been years since I've had one. They're great little pocket pets.

Awww! What a cute little hamster! I like the name Casey for him. I think that would be a good choice!

Thanks for the welcome KBlaix. I'll be here for a while. I'll probably be answering hamster questions for anyone who posts them. :-) I know some stuff about guinea pigs, rats, and mice though too.

And correction, lol. I said I was thinking about the name Casey, but I'm still thinking so other ideas are still welcome.

Does pearl work in the same way that it does in rats? Just curious if it only works with certain colors, such as pearl coinsiding with mink?

I'm not sure.. but in hamsters it is the combining of the yellow gene plus any of the three gray genes (dark gray, light gray, or silver gray)
