    Jake

What a bitter-sweet yet life affirming story of Jake, Spud and their poor little "bud" who sadly passed. How touching are Jake's efforts at overcoming the cruel neglect inflicted upon him and his friends. Animals certainly seem blessed with an incredible ability to perservere, despite such incomprehensible abuse. With all your love and hard work, I have no doubt that Jake and Spud will soon learn to trust and love completely, soaring to great heights!! Your home sounds like such a warm, comforting refuge. (And lots of fun too!) The perfect "nest" in which to heal their emotional and physical wounds. Congratulations to you all! I wish Jake and Spud the longest and happiest of lives filled with peace, great adventures and good health. Cudos to Jake, "Pet of the Day!"

I really enjoyed the story about Jake and his Senegal friend, Spud I wish you many many years of happiness with this beautiful bird who obviously knows he is now loved and cherished from the way he came around so quickly. Kudos to Spud for when he goes to his new home.
I am curious however, and would like to know a more detailed description of how the other bird was so mentally gone that he had to be put to sleep. That is so very sad I have been involved with parrot rescue for many years and have never known a bird that had to be put down for "being so mentally gone". Most birds in this situation, even ones that are horribly abused and neglected, bounce back after much TLC. Although they may never be cuddly or even allow themselves to be handled they do recoup to some degree. I have known birds that had to be put down due to illness, mortal injuries etc. which is understandable. I feel like I am in limbo with the story ... I just wish there was a little more information available about the other one who had to be put down. Obviously, it was done in the birds best interest and I hope it is at peace now.

Jake and Spuds parents, you are saints!! We all hear all kinds of dog and cat rescue stories. But you are truly heroes. I think we tend to forget that there are many other animals who are rescued too.
I think you have a wonderful story and am so grateful that you chose to share it with us.
And, congratulations to you, Jake, for being selected as Pet of the Day.
