The Piggies have been here for 3 days now and they are LOVING the warm inside, good food and lots of toys. They get daily out of cage time. They are SO cute, when I walk up to there cage and I say "Where are the piggies?" they ALL run to the side of the cage nearest to me and Squeek and Squeek, it's just adorable!

Anyway! I need Name ideas! What should I name these 3 Girls?

I'm really thinking about namenig this girl Kayla

    Piggie number 2

    Piggie number 3

    Any ideas? Please help

Soooooooo adorable. They sound like my piggies, actually! Patches and Smudge don't like to be handled all that much either. Give them time to get used to you. Its definitely normal for them to not want to be picked up; even if they squeak for you. I like to nem guinea pigs according to their appearence, so here are some name suggestions:
    Piggie #1- Cream
    Piggie #2 - Ginger
    Piggie #3 - Truffle(s)

many dont like to be held, lol remeber they are prey animals they are going to run when a giant creature comes down to grab them, thats the way they see it. they will get used to being held and will calm down after a while, but it is unlikley that they will ever stop running away when you try to catch them. I amnot saying its not possable, a few piggies do eventually start enjoying being picked up, but ut does not happen all that often when did ya get piggies anyway? lol I have been gone for 3 weeks and obviously missed something

guineapiggie13 I have piggies name smudge and patch to lol and my smudge looks almost exactly like yours

About the handling part, my piggie has been with me for nearly a year now. She completely trusts me, but guinea pigs are prey animals. No matter how used to you they get, their wild ancestor's prey animal instincts come out when they are being picked up. I hope that helps. -Love Lexie

Yes, I do know that they are prey animals. I do not expect them to stand still or jump into my hands. I just wanted some information on how to handle them and get them better used to handling as I've never had them before. I got some help from another board I belong where someone owns them. Thank you though.

guineapiggie13 - Those are cute names. Thanx for the suggestion!

    They are adorable!

Taffy has been with me for around 7 years and only sometimes will he not run from my hands. Try calming them down first by just stroking them and petting them. Or feed them lots of fresh fruits and veggies by hand, they'll come running towards your hands whenever you put them in the cage!

Can't think of any name ideas, but keep us updated with more pigtures!

females loosing their hair? is it in patchs sort of and mostly on the sides? if so sounds like ovarian cysts, its a common desease for female piggies sometimes spaying will get rid of the cysts though.

guineapiggie13 here is a pic of my smudgy lol

How adorable!!! I love the names suggested already as well as Penelope, Lola, Pearl, Tess and Ruby

My Moon was extrememly skittish when I first adopted her. But now, like her sister Rosie, she loves being held, petted and cuddled and brushed. Consistency is the key! In addition to floor time, maKe sure you take time every day to hold them in your lap, maybe feeding them a little carrot or other treat while you do. Mine love being stroked under the chin and skritched on the forehead. They become almost hypnotized and purrr away! Sometimes I'll sit with them on the floor in a small room, like the bathroom and just let them run around, scampering over my legs and lap. And if you're piggies are like mine, they will come to enjoy their baths; a great time for learning to trust. With a little time and patience, they will some come to know you and welcome your attention!

If your pig is scataching and losing fur in patches, she might have a parasite, e.g. mites. A vet can do a scraping and check under the microscope. They're easily treated with a series of sulfur sol. baths.

    Keep us updated!

As stated in the previouse thread, the piggies had a vet apointment last friday. However, the vet cancled the apointment and I will call to schedule another one.

Cali- No, she is loosing it in strips, yup along her sides. Hmm, the vet will be able to tell us though. I can't wait to know what is happing so that I can fix it.

Piggie Number 1 is loosing her hair like CRAZY. I need a brush for them, what kind should I use? Also, what kind of shampoo can I use on them? Baby?

I'm pretty sure that Piggie Number 2 is going to be named Libby and Piggie number 3 is going to be named Logan. We need an L name for Piggie number 1 though.

Ashley, if you can find some bunny shampoo, that would be best. At first I heard baby shampoo was ok, but my vet would rather I use bunny 'poo Like the names, but it's going to be hard keeping all the Logan's straight

I call Smudge "smudgy" too! Your smudge looks very similar because my little boy has a band of white on him, too!
