sad day in ontario (pit bull bann)

its a sad day in ontario-a grouping of dogs the government has
decided are grouped in their opinions under the pit group including
staffs, staff bullies, bullies, pits and even bulldogs
they are banning them in ontario.

they claim existing dogs will not be harmed and will be allowed to
live out their lives. HOWever they are avoiding the obvious-what
happens if there is a change of hands in owners or all those shelter
pits-obviously if shelters cannot adopt them out they have only one
    other option.
Shleters need to consider their part in the blame game too in this
area becuase for yrs now dogs coming in are often labeled and assumed
pit mixes if they even remotely may have it in them, with them being
so high in population shelters are quick to jump to this conclusion.
They have also been responsible for repeat attacking dogs being re-
adopted out in a cpl of controversal cases, just making the whole
    problem even worse.
Many dogs are mis- labeled by shelters, owners are now calling thier
vets that believe their mixes are not part pit for a panicked re-
assment of breed to contradict what shelters have labeled them where
adopted from as,without a breed assment in writing the city will not
    allow such changes on registrations.

The government ignores the postive high quality breeders, the show, fly
ball and agility qulaity, this will destroy any livelihood of these
    postive owners and breeders.

The government and media would like everyone to forget that in 1999 this breed was voted and listed in the top ten for best family pets.

More importantly the high population of pits and like breeds in
ontario has painted a picture, with the help of media frenzies ,that
is completely incorrect. stats are taken as per bite incidents NEVER
has the media or government sat down and admitted that when
calculating percentages pits and like breeds actually have a very low
bite rate compared to numerous other breeds. On average the bite rate
is actually an extremely low percentage.

What ever breed that is used and becomes most popular next will again
suffer this bias judgements once again. It can be any breed, but it
will happen once the breed gains popularity and becomes the most
populated dog.It might take a few yrs but it will happen.

Bad owners should have been the focus and target if anything as we
all know, this is far more of an issue then the breed itself because
these same ppl will just go out now and get a diffrent breed they
will have the same way and the same thing will repeat with those
types of owners again. punishing all pits and like breeds and owners
is just a disgrace and o so wrong.

It will be a sad day in ontario for anyone who loves the breeds being
labeled and anyone who loves animals period.

this is terrible! if only people would have not made the pit have the rep it has today.

although, it's a step further to get rid of pit fighters.

That's awful I feel so bad for all the pitbulls that are in the shelter right now, I wish I could help them all somehow I also feel bad for the people who love pitbulls and will never be able to own one as long as they're living in Ontario

It is so sad that it has come to this for the pit bull breed.
It makes me sooooo angry and I agree with everyone else its total B.S!!!

I live in Colorado and they have done the same thing in Denver.
If they ever do it where I live I would pack up and move. No one is going to make me give up Jada NOT ever!!!

Are they putting down all those breeds of dogs that are in shelters

well in the grouping they have done they havent said which bulldogs so i don't know, they probably dont even know there are diffrent ones. They may mean the american cuz they look like pits, but there is no mention if it is them or if it could also include english and even the wee french, either way any of the bulldogs being grouped with them is not only incorrect as far as the grouping goes but its also very unfair.
    the newspaper said;
    pit bull terriers
    american pit bull terriers
    staffordshire pit bulls
    staffordshire bull terriers
    bull terriers
    bulldogs
