Has anyone ever heard this poem? I love it, it makes me cry!

A Pitbull's Prayer

Spirit in the sky, who watches over all animals, it is my prayer and my request, that you grant greater understanding and acceptance to humans
Those who love us and those who hate us
That they will know how loyal we are, how brave we are, and how loving we are
Help them to accept us as a breed in whole, and not let the few tragedies shine brighter
Than the many great traits we have

And those that would kill me, let them know
i forgive them even though I don't understand their hatred, and those who would beat me, let them know, I still love them even though it is not the honorable way.

Thank you for all the strong traits, that you have given to me and my breed.
Help those know that I stand for courage, strength, loyalty, and bravery.
And as my master already knows, let those who would come against my family know that I would surely die defending them.

And just one last thing that I would ask,
Let my master know, that if you should call me away, that I will wait patiently at those pearly gates,
until the one that's chosen me comes home.

It is sad that some people have such a negative impression on pit bulls just because of a few bad stories. It a dog is mean, it is a result of their upbringing. Great poem, thank you for sharing!

Come here, boy, I have something to say.
I have to send you to Rainbow Bridge today.
Even though you will never understand,
I need to explain why you must die, at my hand.

You see, the folks who are supposed to protect this land,
Have decided your breed is dangerous so you've been banned.
These lawmakers obviously haven't a clue,
Of the heartache and anguish they are putting us through.

We thought of everything thing, hashed and rehashed.
We've scanned all the options, our hopes have been dashed.
We could give you to rescue in hopes you'd find a home.
But those folks are over-burdened, you'd die all alone.

So we've chosen this way to stay on the right side of the law.
Even though we think it's wrong...here, give me your paw.
I want to stroke you and hold you and such,
And let you know that you'll be missed so much.

I remember when you came to us, a small ball of fur,
Thought I'd never get you housebroken, that was for sure.
But trained you became once and for all.
You loved all creatures, be they great or small.

I'll never forget your soft brown eyes and their pleading look,
That soulful expression stole my heart and with it, took
My love, my devotion, my reason for being
Now I must let you go, I feel my resolve fleeing.

Though you are healthy and happy, I know you won't bear a grudge
Against me even though I feel guilty at being your judge.
The time has come, here's your very best friend, the vet,
You've done nothing wrong, don't let my tears make you fret.

And forgive me please for ending your life this way,
I guess I've said all that I had to say.
Go to sleep now, precious boy, go quietly to sleep.
Your memory, next to my heart, I will keep.

I never imagined it would hurt so much to be,
In the home of the brave, in the land of the free.
What freedom is there when we are forced to kill
What we love most and whose crimes are nil?

I've already got A pitbull's prayer on the door to the large dog keenel and in the lobby so that poem will be goin up right next to it!

OMG that was a tear jerker!!! We live in Colorado and Denver has done the pit bull ban. It saddens me more than I can say. Maybe they should think about BANNING the BAD owners instead of the dog. Like SugarLovesPits posts say "Punish the deed not the breed."

Yes I believe there should just be a ban on ignorant axxholes owning any breed of dog then there would be no reason to ban any dog!!

What a sad way to lose your dog

I just e-mailed that to the person in charge of the idea of banning pitbulls in Ontario.
