Dear Duke, such a handsome boy you are! One need only look into those beautiful, gentle eyes to know how special a friend you are. Life for you and your mom has not always been easy, sweet man. But, through it all, you have had each other there to love and help you through the hard times. What a loyal and faithful friend you are Duke. As you look out your window, awaiting your mom's return, I know she too is anxiously anticipating the sight of your beautiful face! What a special bond you two share. And I am sure that MANY, many more happy years are yet be spent in her loving embrace. Congratulations to you Duke, our beautiful, faithful, loyal and most loving Dog of the Day! Duke, you are such a special friend and companion. You truly deserve to be honored for being faithful and comforting and bringing love to your mom when she needed it most.

Your story reminds me of the problem that many abused humans have - they are afraid to leave their abuser because they have pets, and fear the abuser will harm the pet even more. Many human shelters are working with animal shelters and rescue groups to make sure that ANY creature being abused can find a safe haven away from harm. Maybe your story will inspire others to encourage that link between human and pet helpers!

Oh Duke! Your beautiful, loving, sweet, gentle face graced my evening. Who could ever resist those beautiful, expressive eyes! They say the eyes are the mirror of the soul, so yours say it all. I agree with my friends, your mom is, herself, special and terrific! I'm so glad you have a happy life together now, which is what everyone deserves. I know you both are the center of each others world (thx RJ for that endearing expression)and you keep each other safe and warm. I know Duke will have a long life with all the love you give him, so don't worry. You will always be together!
