This little guy has really gotten to me. It brings back so many memories of mine when they first came in. I remember the wonderful feeling when they began to trust me. Mowgli is so cute and Lacey is doing such a great job!
How are things today???

Things are doing great! He's letting me hold him for a bit now. Earlier he was all curled up on his back like a baby while I held him and it was so precious!
He's also gassy as all get out and giving me lots of icky poo pancakes (as posted in the Cat Health section). If I don't get a call from the white coats in another half hour, I'm just going to pack him up and take him in - most likely for antibiotics and hopefully not for any flagel.
Awwwe! Poor little guy is doing so good and then the tummy goes bad! Did you change his food? He wasn't having any problems before was he?
Curled up on his back while you held him???? this little guy is yours now!!! What a sweetie! I'm telling you he is going to be a dream boy and you are going to be so glad you did this! I can't wait!!! How do you think Zelda will do when he is free?
Yucky poo on the runny poop..... could very well be that dad burn Coccidia! But Lacey, you are doing such a wonderful job with him ...gosh, he's ALREADY lying in your arms!!!

Kim Loves Cats and Doggies Too!
I've just been feeding him Kitten Chow - augmented by Chicken and Cheese flavored Whisker Lickin's every now and then. It might just be from eating too much, though. The bag recommends 1/2 - 3/4 of a cup daily, and he's been getting around about 1 cup daily. I've tried letting him fast a bit this morning to see if it would work itself out of his system, and he's only gone once (and that sample is all baggied up), but he's still being a gassy boy. I'm sitting about 5 ft. away and I can still smell it.![]()
Once he's free, I thing Zelda will ignore him for a while - maybe hiss and swat a bit when he gets too close. I'm not sure, though. Right now she's stretched out right in front of his cage and is being a good girl. But I think that's because she wants at the little nibbles of Kitten Chow that Mowgli's dropped onto the floor of his cage. She's such a piggy sometimes!
It doesn't sound like the food to me. I think right now it's good that you have cut him back some but in my experience it takes a while for ferals to figure out that they have a permenant food supply. Plus he is young and will eat a lot anyway. I don't think you have done anything wrong at all and it sounds like it could be the dreaded coccidia! He will be fine once he gets some meds and maybe a diet for a while. Sometimes it can be a booger to get rid of!
Other than that it sure sounds great! Maybe Zelda likes him more than she is willing to admit! They will have to work out the pecking order and I'm quit sure Zelda will immediately let him know that she is boss! Once that is all worked out I think they may become friends! Orange boys somehow have a way of making that happen!
Keep us posted on his belly.
Well, I've given the vet's office plenty of time to call back, seeing as I first called them to ask about this little tummy problem over an hour ago. So I'm just going to pack Mowgli into the carrier, snag his sample, and head off to see if they can squeeze me in. If they give meds for Mowgli, hopefully it'll be something that I can put in his food and he'll scarf right down (like his drontal tablet after the first vet trip). I don't think he's quite ready to be pilled just yet.
Good luck and keep us posted!
I had to smile at this because Mowgli is still a kitten so I don't know if Zelda will be able to ignore him. Especially since you say he seems to be enamored with him.Originally posted by Lacey

Sorry to hear about his tummy problems. Hopefully it's just an upset tummy and not the dreaded Coccidia. I know Luna has been fighting that for quite awhile now and it keeps coming back. I really have no idea what it is, but it sounds nasty and not fun.![]()
Good luck little Mowgli!![]()

The vet thinks it might just be a reaction to the dewormer he had on Saturday. And now we've got 5 days worth of flagyl to go through! Luckily they tried Mowgli's first dose out with a pill pocket and he scarfed that right down, so I think pilling him will be fairly easy.
And he was very well-behaved this time! No one tried to handle him, though. He didn't meow his little lungs out and he only hissed at one of the assistants - the one who apparently suggested getting him neutered while they had him knocked out on that first visit of his. Mowgli saved all his meowing for the trip home, and even stopped that when we pulled up to the apartment. I guess he was impatient to get back here.
After we got in, the little booger-head decided he felt like playing. So I snagged my camera and he began attacking the camera string. Yes, he's out of the cage here, but I sit right in front of it and block him off from getting anywhere.

Kissies to Mowgli. Good job at the vet, cutie pie. You've come so far in only a few days. We are all so proud.

Just my opinion here but I think once you get his belly straightened out he might be ready to be lose in your office for a trial run! You know whats best because you are with him but I bet even if he hides he will come out to play. He seems to enjoy playing with you. I'm sure you don't want him free until the bowels are under control but from what I'm seeing I think he is ready. Remember...you know best Lacey because you are there!![]()

I'm so glad it was nothing serious. He is just such a cutie orangie.
Now that we've finally gotten pics of Fister again, I believe Mowgli is going to be the spittin' image of Fister.

Look at the color and all the stripies, and the mask on their faces, along with the tabby M on their foreheads. He could be Fister's younger brother....or son for that matter.![]()
