What a sweetie!!! Its a good thing you limit the meat,as rabbits are herbiovus. (grasses and grains) Meats are not good for them.

    wrong food

Such a sweet bunny! But rabbits should never be fed meat or anything other than fresh food and their dry pellet feed. I really hope she stops this because this gorgeous bun will certainly not live for very much longer on a diet of that kind!

How precious!!! I have to admit darling Dusty...for a moment there, I wasn't sure if you were a bunny!...I just knew you were adorable What a wonderful realtionship you share with your family and especially, your "mom!" You are obviously one very loved and cherished bunny You surely must be one very well mannered little bunster girl to be granted free run of the house; I'm very impressed! And I'll bet those romps in the park are great fun, too. How sweet you must look strolling about in your harness! It was a pleasure to meet you precious Dusty!!! I too hope that you and your family enjoy many, many more happy years together! Congratulations to you adorable Dusty, Pet of the Day! Enjoy your well earned day of honor sweetheart with lots of extra hugs and kisses and yummy, fresh veggies! ( Not carrots of course)

What a sweet little face and those teeny bunny feet! Dusty, you made me smile this morning. You sound like a very sweet little bunster, although I'm sure you're a bit bigger than your picture. Enjoy your special day bunny hopping about.

    No Meat Please, I'm Veggie!

Dusty may like the taste of meat, but rabbits can't digest meat properly. For many different reasons, meat can make rabbits REALLY sick! If you need to give her a treat, I suggest you try some small pieces of "bunny-preferred" fruit. Bananas are often a big hit. My rabbits LOVE bananas, but also like grapes (though the first few times you MAY have to cut a grape in half so they smell and taste the juicy part), fresh pineapple (you may have to wipe off their chin afterwards - very messy!), kiwi and many other fruits including small CRUNCHY pieces of fresh apples. Many rabbits seem to like foods that crunch - probably one of the many reasons they like carrots!

Remember that all of the above should be considered treats, and so should be given in small amounts. Just like many people (especially children) will eat sweets all day, most rabbits will happily eat all the fruit you give them. This doesn't mean that feeding lots and lots of fruit each day is good for them.

If Dusty still seems to want meat, see if you can find something vegetarian that's suppose to taste like meat. I suggest you get it from a health-food store, since their foods are less likely to have chemicals and coloring that may make the food look and taste more like meat (at least to people), but may not be good for the rabbit. Also be aware that many vegetarian "fake meats" can be very high in salt/sodium (that seems to help it taste more like meat to most people), and too much salt isn't healthy for rabbits just like it isn't healthy for people. So read the labels, and remember to use these as special TREATS, not a replacement for his normal food.

The House Rabbit Society (www.rabbit.org) is a wonderful website for learning about rabbits. Starting from that site you will find great information to teach you how to best take care of Dusty.

A good first stop for learning about rabbit nutrition is http://www.rabbit.org/chapters/san-diego/diet

Two links on the above page you should check out are:

    1) www.CarrotCafe.com - useful site with LOTS of rabbit eating information.

    2) A Rabbit Food Pyramid!

(I don't know if Australia has this, but a few years ago the US government started advertising a "Human Food Pyramid" as a quick way to explain to people which foods and quantities are best for people (you can eat lots of the foods from the bottom of the pyramid, but not too much of the foods near the top). This is the "unofficial" bunny version!)

I hope the above information helps both you and Dusty enjoy a long, happy (hoppy?) life together!

    Darling Dusty

    What an adorable bun :0)
I agree with everyone else sweetheart you should not be eating meat. Its very bad for bunnies and can make you terribly ill. As bunny Moms we should steer our children away from things that are dangerous for them even though they may like them. My three love vanilla oreo cookies with a passion but I only give them the bite size ones very sparingly as a treat. They could eat the whole bag they love them so much.
    Congrats on POTD!
