    What are those small round seed things that

    get stuck all in your socks when you walk through tall grass or woods called?

    (shewweee, how was that for a run-on sentence)

    That's exactly what I was calling them .... LOL! I thought I was crazy, but that word just popped into my head from my childhood! Maybe it's a Tennessee thing!!!

    Their called cockelburrs in Minnesota, too.

    we just call them burrs, but I have heard the word cockleburrs.

    Arctium lappa

    greater burrdock; great burdock; edible b.; harlock; cuckold

    Remarks:
    Plant trivia: The burrs on this plant are probably the ones that inspired Swiss engineer George de Mestral, the inventor of Velcro (TM).

    We call them Burrdocks too. Those stupid things that always seem to find thier way into your horses mane or tail right before a show! UGH. hehe

    In South Carolina and Georgia, where I grew up, they were called cockleburrs.

    Also, I heard on Paul Harvey that the guy who invented VELCRO got the idea from cockleburrs after walking in the woods.

    Out here in Nv we call em goatheads...and boy you know it when one gets stuck in your shoe!!! *ow ow ow* I hate it when the dog picks em up and you *try* carefully to get them out but the dang things wont come out without tugging and most of the time at least I end up with a stab wound in my fingers as a result!
    And they are imposible to get off of blankets lol.
