    Some updated outdoor/yard pics :)

Thought I'd share a few updated pics of the yard

This is from a couple weeks ago when the mountain ash tree was blooming. If you are wondering what that green is in the background, that is one of those "grass mats" that has grass seed and fertilizer in it, you just roll it out and water it and the grass comes in. We put it over a spot where my husband had taken out a sickly tree last fall.

Hostas (can never have too many of these )

    Radishes from the garden

Under a maple tree out back, David planted various types of hostas, creeping phlox along the edge, and then white impatiens in the barrels.

Your yard is HUGE!!! I mean HUUUUUUGE!!!! I love it! It looks like a park, and its SO well maintained for such a large area. So green, so beautiful. How do you manage to take such good care of such a big garden?

Your radishes look SO good, as well as all your other plants. Mind sending me some of your fresh home grown veggies?

Do you have fruit trees too?

Just apple trees . I have to give David most of the credit for how well groomed the yard is. He mows it religiously and keeps everything trimmed up nicely. I help with some of the planting and ideas and did a lot of the seedling care earlier in the year.

    Thanks for the compliment

    Those flowers are gorgeous.

We have a small garden in our yard. My dad said he gives up on it because the stupid squirelles have aten our squash and gerber daisies. We have a HUGE oak tree full of acorns, but those dang pests have to eat OUR food.

I haven't seen too many squirrels surprisingly, but rabbits have chewed down my strawberry plants now a few times. We had to put chicken wire around the strawberry bed to save them. So far, they have totally left the garden alone. Gotta keep my fingers crossed that it stays that way.

You could grow a whole forest of fruit trees in that yard if you wanted! We have a plum and nectrin tree in our new house where we're moving in like 2 weeks. My mom wants to plant a cherry tree, apricot tree, and maybe an apple or orange tree along with it once we get there. I just love having fruit trees in the backyard. We usually plant lots of veggies too, but haven't this year because we're moving. Maybe we'll plant some at the new house, but of course we'll need to buy plants because I think its too late to plant seedlings.

Do you plan on growing any more fruit trees? I wish we could grow a mango tree here, but I don't think our climate is warm enough. I would LOVE to have a mango tree.

I'd love to, but I really don't think many fruit trees besides apples would survive Minnesota winters too well. Mom planted a peach tree in the yard when I was growing up in Missouri, but it got some sort of disease after a couple years and didn't make it . I don't know a whole lot about fruit trees, but I think some can be fussy and prone to disease. I'm sure there might be a few varieties that could make it up here, but I haven't really looked into it.

I like the apple trees but they can be a bit of a pain too in the fall, they drop apples like crazy and attract swarms of bees and yellowjackets. Tommy got stung a few times when he tried to pick up the "balls" on the ground to play with. But the apples we do get are sure tasty

What beautiful pics, Jess! The yard is looking so lovely and the gardens too! Don't you love Mt. Ash? I have one in my yard; they do well here in the northeast. But by far the favorites here are the apple and the peach trees. The girls LOVE to eat the fruit...peaches in summer, apples in Fall Star loves to try and jump up to the lowest branch and pick them off! You can see in the pic of Cody I posted in her health thread, she's munching on an apple
Your creeping phlox looks so pretty amongst the hostas. Are they 'Undulata?" (The Hosta, I mean!) Shade gardens are real favorites of mine. I love the fact that you have to put more thought into form, texture and color to make them intersting than with bolder, flowering plants. And those radishes! YUM Honestly, now I have to run to the store for some! Didn't plant any this year, except for some daikon! (Japanese radish)

Keep up the good work, girlfriend And we want bi-weekly pics of the harvest!
