Please say a prayer for Max

Just now he was in the litterbox doing his business then he turned around and darted out at 100 miles an hour.

Now he's dragging his back end and one leg seems to be paralyzed. We have an appt at the Whitecoats in half an hour.

I am so scared. I know that I have not been posting much on Pet Talk but if you could please keep your fingers and paws crossed that it's just a pinched nerve or something, I'd be really grateful. Thanks.

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, champagne in one hand and strawberries in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming WOO HOO - What a Ride!

Well, we're back. It appears that Max is having problems with both of his hips. He screamed in pain when the vet touched it. He's given Max an anti-inflamatory injection and I have some meds to give him for 4 days. If he does not get any better then I have to take him in for an x-ray.

He is confined to my bedroom for now and is still walking funny. His back end keeps falling down. It's so sad to see. I really don't know what happened. I'm thinking that he turned the wrong way or something when he scooted out of the LB. I'll just have to wait and see in the next couple of days.

Edit: He jumped on the bed OK but you can see that his back legs are not working right.

Awww Purrs, prayers and headbutts for Max. Hope the shot helps him and it doesn't ever happen again. Is there any way you can keep him from jumping? I would think that would delay healing. Did the vet say it's OK for him to be up & about?

You know Max has always been afraid of his own poop and after he goes he sniffs then takes off like shot. This time it was a bit runny and I think his exuberant need to do the 100 yd dash in 3 sec made him twist his body so that something went out of wack because he was just fine before that.

Jan: the vet said to keep him confined for now but all he does is scratch the door. He's never ever been locked up before and I don't want him to think he's done something bad so I let him wander around and after he ate a few crunchies he's now resting on the dining room chair. While I'm at work tomorrow I'll confine him to the spare bedroom where jumping is limited.

He is 11 yrs old now and it could be that he's getting arthritis in his hips but he's never shown any pain before now. Today's episode may have just aggrevated it.

Thanks for you thoughts. I'm starting to come out of my "funk" now so I'm off to send prayers to everyone else.

Poor Max. I hope the medication helps him quick smart.

Arthritis might be catching up with him; my mum's 9-year-old Tonkinese was recently diagnosed and medication is helping her a lot. Doesn't stop her from jumping from the front door, though ...
