    Cat urinating on couch

I have had my Snowshoe cat, Feffer. since 1999. We also have a domestic tomcat, Mustang, since 2000. We have a 3 story house and up until about a month ago, they have had the run of all 3 stories. Suddenly we began finding stinky puddles...in one corner, on a couch. We don't really know which cat is doing it, but they have been banished to the basement where their litter box and food is kept. Since we have been keeping them in the basement, it has gotten worse. One of our two couches in the basement has gotten doused three times. I can't watch them all the time to find out which is doing it, but I feel badly that they have to be cooped up all the time. Also, my husband is losing his patience with them...he's ready to kick them out. Help!!! I need some advice!!

The cats need to be checked for a Urinary Tract Infection. Usually, when their pattern of peeing changes from a litterbox to places OTHER than the litterbox, it's a sign that something is medically wrong.

The first thing you need to do is rule that out. Good luck and please keep us posted.

I have two cat's that are going through the same thing; we also have to keep them in the basement because one of them have been peeing on the sofa. We had problems with katie first, she was going though separation anxiety. And one day Simba just out of the blue urinated on the carpet right in front of me, I was shocked!

I am still am paranoid, so I keep the cat's downstairs just at night time.

I would bring your kitties to the Vet just to make sure they are fine.

As Moosmom says, it could be a UTI, so you better have your cat(s) checked at the vet. Peeing other places than in the litterbox is a cats way of telling you something is wrong. Our Fister did it once, right in front of us. It's very painful for the cat and can be life threatening.

    Good luck!

Thanks for the insight guys...I realized that they hadn't been doing that until I eliminated one of their litter boxes. We used two for a long time, but I was lazy and got rid of one. I put it back and haven't had any problems, but I still need to double check for UTI.

I'm glad this was easily resolved. The first things to check are changes in litter box number/litter style/location; then for UTI.

    Cat urinating other than litterbox

I have a 4 year old cat and she's usually very good about using her litter box. Recently she starting urinating on a pillow, jeans, and a spot on the carpet in a corner. I've had her tested for urinary tract problems and she's healthy. She's never defecated outside the box though. I guess I'm assuming that she's having attitude problems. I use a squirt bottle to spray her when she scratches stuff, pees in inappropriate places, etc. Can anyone offer any more insight? I don't have any other pets and she uses the litter/litter box that she's always had.
