TALKS WITH HIS TAIL.....

My big orange tabby, Rascal (stray/rescue) has so much to say with his tail. As I am sitting here at the computer he walks by me and "slams" me with his tail. I just started paying attention to how much he has to say by just using his tail. Sometimes he strokes me with it - and now he is slamming me with it. The slamming means that he wants attention RIGHT NOW!! He also has a lot to "say" and when I call him, so help me, his answer sounds just like WHAT?
It is a different sound from "out", "feed me"
"I am here, pay attention to me".

I love it! Cats really are able to communicate with their tails! After reading your post I thought of something I witnessed yesterday: My cat Saima whacked herself on the face with her own tail! I forget exactly how that happened, maybe I surprised her or something and she turned really quickly. Anyway, I was thinking that my cat does the same thing yours does, and now she got a taste of her own medicine! I also know what you mean about the different "meows". I'm sure you know about this scenario, too:

Cat: "Meow!"
Human: "Meow!" ('meows' back)
C: "Meow!"
H: "Meow!"
C: "Meow!"
H: "Meow!"
...this goes on back and forth for a while...

Margaret, you are too funny! Taboo has a "ribbed" tail, and it has the tiniest "hook" at the tip, so the top of his tail curls (he looks and acts part siamese, but he's a show-up-on-the-doorstep cat, so who knows). He loves to meow at me, then he runs, and I am to chase him and rub his tail so it curls left, then right, etc... It's hysterical. I'd say he has me trained pretty well! LOL!

That's great about Taboo! Her tail has its own personality, I'd say. Do you have a photo to share? I love the way cats interact and communicate with us in so many different ways. And I really get a kick out of how some cats like to play with us and teach us to play their games. Being chased, I think, is the biggest thrill for them! My cat just gets so excited when I chase her, and it's so funny to see her little butt running down the hall, tail straight up, to "base"--her little carpeted pedestal in the living room. She knows that once she makes it to base, she's "safe". She'll lie against the bottom of the pedestal, look at me with her mouth open and blink, and purr purr purr. Then after she rests a bit, we start the chase again. She just loves being chased! Run run run!

My three baby cats (they're actually almost two years old now but that's the only way I know how to distinguish them from their mother) all have distinctive tails.

Big Mac has been identified by the vet as being part Manx because the last couple of vertebrae feel "knotty". I first noticed it when he was only days old and thought maybe his mom had stepped on him and broken it!

Cookie almost always holds her tail sideways, in an upside down "U". I almost never see the straight up, or the "?" mark that most cats hold their tails in. When I pet her back or butt, she just flips her tail right over my arm!

Pepper usually holds her tail in the "?", but the two curved halves nearly meet! In fact, I can easily fold her tail in two, or make the Dairy Queen curlicue out if it and she shows no discomfort at all.

Margaret, we play that exact same game at my house. No "safe", though. When Taboo rolls onto his back, it means rub his belly and no more running. Then we start all over again. I hide and he cannot stand it, he has to run and find me! I don't know how to post his photo here. He is clever, and so I only have a few photos of him.
