They changed it to Parson Russel Terrier. I don't know why though.

I think the Parson Russell Terrier is the longer legged variety and the Jack Russell Terrier is shorter and stockier.

I saw a dog show on Animal Planet that said it changed from the Jack Russell to the Parson (or Parson's) russell. Don't know why though, I didn't hear everything that was said....

They changed the name to Parsons Russel Terrier I guess to address that the Parson Jack Russel was the person who started the breed. Jack Russel was fine to me. But I quess they wanted the Parsons part in it.

The working jack russel people were upset with what the show jack russels were becoming and so asked to change the name to preserve the image of the working jack. So the Parson Russel is what you will find at the dog show and the jack russel is what you would find at a working trial.

The breed was started in England by a man named Jack Russell .... who also happened to be a parson (a minister, a preacher, etc.) So his title was Parson Jack Russell, instead of Mr. Jack Russell. Just like you might see someone today who's title is Reverend Bob Smith or Father Eric Jones. He wanted a special dog to rid his church and parsonage of rats. The dogs were eventually named after him .... the Parson Jack Russell terrier.

Right. Kind of like how the working border collie people and the show border collie people want to rip each other's eyes out. I suppose at least the Russell people had the sense to split the breed.

I have a short-legged one, so I suppose he is still a Jack Russell. Not that I care much, one way or another.

your right and wrong twister lol the working vs show people in border collies have been trying to split the breed right from when AKC recignized the BC, the working vs show Russles, the plan worked, the working BC people are getting nowhere though.

I agree with Cali... I actually side with the working BC's because I really don't like the way the show BC's look because to me, they just look sort of "fake"... They don't seem to look or act like the working BC's (the original Border Collie). Hopefully they will be able to split... I don't like seeing the true Border Collie being made into a just pet or show dog.. It's ruining the true purpose of the breed...

I have friends that have show border collies, they look like border collies, they also have herding titles, obe. titles and agility titles on them. So I quite don't understand the post about not liking the show border collies. They don't look fake to me. I show my standard poodles, they also do water retrieving, obe. and agility. They were in a show cut while doing this also.. So I am sorry for not understanding the thinking of show vs working.

I cant stand show border collies, not only do I hate the way they look, but the fact they they are BRED for looks in the firstplace. and an AKC herding title aint worth anything quite honestly. the whole point is that border collies dont have a "look" although in general I have never seen a true BC that looked anything like barbie collies. the big fuss is that AKC literally ruins breeds, and show people justify it. here is an exellent site all about it, mostly deals with terriers, but it makes the point.

I agree with the Border Collie thiing, I dont like the look of show BCs. I am also hoping that the kennel clubs will split the breed.
